Alicia Keys leads American Music Award nominees

Alicia Keys had a leading five nominations for the 2008 American Music Awards, including artist of the year and favorite female artist in both the pop/rock and soul/R&B categories.

Coldplay and the Eagles had four nominations each, while Chris Brown and Lil Wayne received three apiece. They were also contenders for artist of the year, American Music Awards host Jimmy Kimmel announced Tuesday.

Jesse McCartney and Julianne Hough joined Kimmel to announce the nominees and performers during a press conference at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

Rihanna, Ne-Yo, Taylor Swift and the Pussycat Dolls are among those scheduled to perform during the American Music Awards ceremony, to be held at the Nokia Theatre on Nov. 23 and broadcast live on ABC.

Winners will be determined by online voting. Votes will be accepted until Nov. 7.

Pop/Rock: Male artist: Chris Brown, Kid Rock, Usher; Female artist: Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Rihanna; Band, duo or group: Coldplay, Eagles, Daughtry; Album: "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends" (Coldplay); "Long Road out of Eden" (Eagles); "As I Am" (Alicia Keys).

Country: Male artist: Garth Brooks, Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley; Female artist: Reba McEntire, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood; Band, duo or group: Brooks & Dunn, Rascal Flatts, Sugarland; Album: "The Ultimate Hits" (Garth Brooks), "Still Feels Good" (Rascal Flatts), "Carnival Ride" (Carrie Underwood).

Rap/Hip-Hop: Male artist: Flo Rida, Lil Wayne, Kanye West; Band, duo or group: G Unit, Three 6 Mafia, Wu-Tang Clan; Album: "American Gangster" (Jay-Z), "Tha Carter III" (Lil Wayne), "Graduation" (Kanye West).
