Winehouse, Hubby United in Legal Woes

E! Online, Apr 25, 2008 4:00 am PDT
Blake Fielder-Civil will be cooling his heels in the clink for some time to come. The missus, Amy Winehouse, meanwhile, is looking to avoid the same fate.

While the Grammy winner's hubby was in the midst of 90-minute hearing in his ongoing assault and conspiracy case, Winehouse was voluntarily en route to a London police station, where she was expected to be quizzed on an alleged head-butting incident that took place early Wednesday.

The singer, who may be arrested for her purportedly defensive maneuver, was photographed leaving her house with tears in her eyes.

Her appointment meant she was absent from her hubby's date at Snaresbrook Crown Court. During the proceedings, the judge ordered Fielder-Civil to remain incarcerated for at least a month longer than expected, likely extending his jail stay past June 9.

He was originally set to be released in May, though Judge David Radford ordered the 25-year-old and his three codefendants to stay put in lockup as "the trial can't be heard within those custody limits."

Fielder-Civil and cohorts will be tried on charges of assault and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice (aka witness tampering), stemming from a pub brawl last year. The proceedings are expected to start June 2 and last up to six weeks, during which time Fielder-Civil will likely remain in jail.

While Winehouse may have been absent from her hubby's hearing, the British tabloids have relished pointing out that a pretty young blonde by the name of Sophie Schandorff was there to cheer on the inmate.

The 21-year-old identified herself to the media as Fielder-Civil's best pal and expressed her self-professed platonic relationship by repeatedly mouthing the words "I love you" to her locked-up mate. Fielder-Civil replied in kind, eliciting a warning from the judge.

With friends like these, who needs wives?
