They tried to make them go to rehab—and finally one of Britain's two most troubled rockers has said yes, yes, yes.

Pete Doherty has managed to delay a long-overdue, though not necessarily inevitable, potential jail stint, with a London judge postponing the Babyshambles rocker's sentencing hearing on a litany of drug charges.

Because Doherty is receiving treatment at an English rehabilitation clinic, he was unable to attend West London Magistrates Court on Tuesday, and the hearing was adjourned.

"I think he's quite serious—it was his idea to do the residential rehabilitation," Doherty's lawyer, Sean Curran, told the Daily Mirror of his client's most recent demon-battling stint in rehab. "He's asked to go in and he's still there, so he's trying his best."

"It's the first time he's done residential rehab and it's very encouraging. I spoke to him and he seems really good."

In July, the 28-year-old Doherty pleaded guilty to driving illegally while in possession of crack cocaine, heroin, ketamine and cannabis. The charges stem from a traffic bust in London last May.

Last month, Judge Davinder Lachlan warned the arrest-prone rocker that she had in mind "a community order or prison. If he does not show his motivation, it's prison—simple as that."

While issuing her legal ultimatum to the frontman, she granted him bail on the condition he live and sleep at a facility in Somerset.

Less than two weeks later, Kate Moss' off-again love interest was busted in east London on suspicion of possessing drugs after a V Festival performance with his group Babyshambles, though prosecutors were forced to drop the bail-violating case against him on a technicality, after taking more than 24 hours to formally bring charges.

Doherty apparently got in touch with his court-ordered motivation late last month, though only after getting physical with a female paparazzo, a widely reported encounter for which no charges have yet been filed.

The most recent postponement marks the third time, at least in this case, that Doherty has evaded the long arm of the law.

In July, Doherty received a postponement when Curran told the court the rocker had made an appointment with a rehab center in Harrogate. It's unclear whether that's the same clinic he's currently residing in.

Doherty is due back in court on Oct. 2. Babyshambles' long-awaited sophomore album, Shotter's Nation, is slated for a U.K. release on Oct. 23.
