Why wait for the actual award show to unveil the award-show montage?

In honor of the Grammy Awards' upcoming 50th anniversary, CBS is planning to air in November a countdown of the top-25 moments from the music industry's biggest kudosfest, as chosen by viewers who can vote online for their favorite memories starting…now.

Fifty moments were chosen by the Recording Academy for fans' voting pleasure. Some of the nearest and dearest performances to Academy members' hearts:

  • Ray Charles, Count Basie, Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard teaming up for a legendary four-piano jam in 1983   • Bette Midler opening minds with "From a Distance" in 1991   • Natalie Cole reuniting with late father Nat King Cole via video duet on "Unforgettable"   • Michael Jackson checking out "The Man in the Mirror" in 1998   • Elton John helping to defend Eminem against accusations of misogyny and homophobia in 2001 by joining him on "Stan"   • Next-generation divas Christina Aguilera, Mya and Pink joining one of the originals, Patti LaBelle, on "Lady Marmalade" in 2002   • Alan Jackson striking just the right chord with his 9-11 tribute, "Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning"   • Beyoncé being out-dressed by Prince in 2003   • Usher and James Brown comparing fancy footwork in 2004   • The Police making amends in April, performing "Roxanne" and stirring excitement for their subsequent world tour

Among the artists who factored into two or more of Grammy's greatest hits were Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton, Charles, Bonnie Raitt, Aguilera and Jamie Foxx. Other usual suspects included Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin and Madonna.

Clips of all 50 performances in contention can be viewed at mynightatthegrammys.com and the 25 top vote-getters will be featured on the two-hour prime-time special My Night at the Grammys Nov. 30 on CBS.

The 50th Annual Grammy Awards are scheduled to take place Feb. 10, 2008, at Los Angeles' Staples Center and will air live on CBS.
