Play Bret Michaels Off The Tony Awards, Keyboard Cat

Posted Mon Jun 8, 2009 11:36am PDT by Lyndsey Parker in And The Winner Is...

All right, let me just preface this blog by saying that IF Bret Michaels had been seriously injured during his performance with Poison at last night's Tony Awards, the video below would NOT be funny.

But, since Bret is reportedly OK after last night's onstage incident...well, this is pretty dang hilarious:

Yes, in probably the most Spinal Tap-esque moment in Broadway history, Bret was nearly decapitated--or at least almost lost part of his golden blonde weave--when a descending set piece toppled him over at the end of his "Nothin' But A Good Time" performance with the Rock Of Ages cast.

But apparently his wig/cowboy hat combo was not just a totally awesome fashion statement. It seems it also served as some sort of helmet-like head armor. And so, Bret survived with only minor injuries aside from his bruised ego.

Thus, let the mockery begin in earnest...Keyboard Cat-style!

Lol - what and idiot! A true woman with honor and dignity his own age wouldn't go out with someone like him - all he can get are skanks, whores, and trailer park trash. He is making an ass of himself. He is pathetic. Maybe this is a sign to give it up. You were great in the 80's but those days are over! Go out in style.

if he not wear hat, then he would see what coming down instead hurt himself. but wear hat, that why he didnt see what coming down. ohhh ouch! hope he is ok from that.

"He don't need nothing but a good time, and it don't get better than this..."

No lyrics were more true than just now!!

Maybe he can wear a hard hat now and his career would be remembered as 2 of the 4 village people.

i've been a stagehand for while, and this is a clear cut example of why there are rehearsals. funny or not, he missed his mark being downstage too far and stayed out too long mugging for more applause. i've seen a lot of near misses in my life because of people adding more to what they're supposed to do or missing their mark. the flyman has a cue and has been instructed to pull that drop in at a certain speed. a lot of drops aren't easy to stop, and they don't stop on a dime. bret michaels should have known that piece was coming in. no, he knew that piece was coming in. this is why there are rehearsals!

Personally - I think this is just obnoxious. I am glad Bret did not sustain any serious injuries. I am also glad that nooneelse was injured. I wonder if "UNSKINNY BOP" might not have been a more appropov song selection. I wonder if Bret has any legal recourse in this. I mean he should've been fore warned that the prop was about to descend on him. I guess this gives new meaning to "Look at What the Keyboard Cat Dragged In". Sorry - this is NOT funny. It's sad and just another sign of the times we live in. Heal speedily Bret.

Hilarioussss! I hate the reality show and I agree with some of you he is a tool so a skank is really all the man can get

Tim, the tony awards have rehearsals before the actual performance. they would have worked on the timing of that drop flying in. it's obvious he's supposed to be upstage of the drop just before it got to it's low position. he had to have known that drop was coming in. i mean seriously, the drop was intended to cover them up in order to allow for the next act to continue on and they be concealed as they leave the stage. i've been a stagehand for a long time. timing, spacing, and hitting your mark are very important in situations like this. it's broadway. it's theatre. things are flying in and out constantly whether the audience sees it or not. it's not a concert on an open stage which bret probably probably thought it was for that brief moment and missed his mark.

i agree it's not funny. that sucks. being onstage you always must be aware of everything. there's no way he didn't know that drop was coming in. you just don't leave something like that out when staging a production. his bad.

97. Cash -
Its about time he found something that could "Rock his world" :D!

98. Queen -
if he wasnt wearing the hat he culd have seen it.
but the cat (i have 2 edmit was pretty hilarioius

I'm quite sure he rehearsed, before the show and knew that set piece would come down, Its Broadway for god sakes, Sets are always coming from every angle in a Broadway show, floors move out , props rise up from the floor . This was the Tony awards for musicals and plays, not a Rock concert, so yes it was very funny.
