Yeehaw MP3s! Top Ten Country Downloads!

Posted Thu Oct 16, 2008 3:03pm PDT by Ken Micallef in Better Living Through MP3

Modern country began with Shania Twain's (aka Eilleen Regina Edwards) suburban smash hit, "Man! I Feel Like A Woman," and the floodgates have poured sweet country wine every since. Sure, you still have old school holdouts like Clint Black and Alan Jackson, but really, the Big and Riches of the world have clearly taken over.

But what comes next? How can country match the 10-gallon-hat authenticity of Kenny Chesney (don't you wonder about Kenny, really)? The American idol meets Barbie doll allure of Carrie Underwood? Or the plastic sincerity of Faith Hill? And with Obama's coming reign (the Far Right's "Obama-nation"), country fans are bound to get ugly. "Raising McCain" aside, the Chevy pickup driving population of the great flyover nation will soon realize that they aren't in Kansas anymore, that the world has shifted and chants of "USA USA USA" won't mean much as the country undergoes the great economic alignment of 2009 and beyond.

So the time is ripe for real country to make a return to the charts. Here's my vote for 2010, the top country downloads of the week!

You can have your Taylor Swift sanitized, sugary, pop rubbish...This stuff is REAL country music.

6. Jonny -
Hmm. Let's keep Peter Bradley Adams between you and me, 'kay? Always is easily my favorite song from that album. The banjo that comes in mid-track is a masterful touch. The others on this list I couldn't care less about.

Pinetop Perkins' 80-year career still going

AP
Fri Nov 27, 2009 4:03am PST

AP - Noisy crowds in smoky bars don't bother 96-year-old bluesman Pinetop Perkins. It's all part of his job. Most nights, after he snuffs out his menthol cigarette, Perkins slides onto the piano bench in some club and … More »
