Spoken Word MP3s For Losers

Posted Fri Mar 14, 2008 3:06pm PDT by Ken Micallef in Better Living Through MP3

Opportunity Does Not Knock Once: Yea, I'm talking to you, schlub. When Frank Sinatra sang, "Here's to the losers, bless them all," he knew they (or you) needed a hand up, not a hand out. In that same spirit of giving, today's freebies include inspirational speakers, mad men, and motivational gurus--just what you need to kick you out of your chair and become all you can be.

Back in the ‘60s, Norman Vincent Peale offered cozy feelgood homilies with a religious bent to inspire the slacker and lift up the downhearted. Today we have Patricia Fripp, Deepak Chopra, Dr. Phil, and that guy who does the PBS specials in his ugly bare feet, walking around a real, built-on-stage, water fountain. That must have cost PBS a big wad, but hey, that's why they have telethons.

Patricia Fripp bills herself as a "keynote speaker, sales trainer" and "executive speech" coach. Opportunity Does Not Knock Once offers upbeat titles like "Make Work Fun...Choose Your Attitude," "'Is it Good Enough for Your Mother' Technique," "Fall In Love With Your Job" and "Be Employable, Not Just Employed." While it is certainly easy enough to joke about some middle aged lady firing up a conference room full of potential mass murderers and lifelong losers, today's job market is nothing to laugh about, right?

Moving On... 2 with Carmen Warrington, Margaret Pinkerton

The two-ton ladies offer sexy British accents, cheesy synthesizer sounds and waves lapping the beach to help you forget your failures and get on with living! Subtitled Meditations for Personal Growth, the CD offers advice for what to do if the alpha dog within you (see today's first offering) has opted to stay in bed all day. Let the world race, you just wanna stop...and brother and sister, Yahoo! Music feels your pain.  Think of "Forgiveness" as a way out of your current turmoil. Up with people!

Don't let them get to you. I enjoyed your writing style, particularly the acerbic barbs tossed at PBS. Is that even a moving target? No matter. Let's get pumped! OM MANHE PADME WHAT? (aw, crap- I can't transcend without an IPOD.....)
