MP3s: Dead Presidents Return
No, we're not talking the wannabe gangsta movie of the ‘90s, but the ever loving grunge turned pop trio, Presidents Of The United States Of America. And what could be more welcome in this time of presidential turmoil and election trouble than a few good songs to wash/wish away the Dubya misery?
For those younger than 30, The Presidents Of The United States Of America were on everyone's lips in the summer of 1995 (pre Monica), slamming modern rock radio with their gooey goofy good hit, "Lump." MTV followed suit, plastering the Seattle taffy friendly trio all over the videoscreen. Further hits followed with "Kitty" and "Peaches," making PUSA's debut record a handy multi-platinum surprise success. The band caught the bug, following up with The Presidents Of The United States Of America: II, in late 1996.
Then, like most bands struck by sudden success and mega dollars, they split up. When funds got low, reunion duty called and PUSA released the compilation, Pure Frosting, in ‘98. Day jobs got the best of them and they did a proper reunion for 2000's Freaked Out And Small. That went nowhere so they tried again, releasing Love Everybody in 2004.
Can lightning strike twice? You tell us. These Are The Good Times People would seem the perfect title coming from PUSA. It's all there, the drive to consume, the need to party, the after party effects of good times gone awry, but then, the good times just keep on coming, don't they? At least, that is what PUSA members Chris Ballew (lead vocals, two-string basitar), Dave Dederer (three-string guitbass, backing vocals) and drummer Jason Finn want us to believe.
