MP3: Damon Albarn’s Love Child

Posted Mon Mar 31, 2008 4:03pm PDT by Ken Micallef in Better Living Through MP3

You heard it hear first.:Never mind that Blur reunion, the next Gorillaz album or a return to Lagos and The Good, The Bad & The Queen, UK collective Bearsuit celebrates Damon Albarn for his "hips of mahogany" and then some. Spewing cast-off vocals over humpty dumpy beat brews and ornery synth colors, Bearsuit captures our man Damon in all his cockney mocking glory--wankers need not apply.

"Fresh out of hiding, six piece Bearsuit have a whole heap of brand-spanking-new shonky pop songs replete with glitter, knives, smiles, shouts and catchy choruses to make you feel happy sad and slightly scared at the same time. Subjects include terrible bloodthirsty gangs of tiny children getting jiggy with dinosaurs, fist-fighting your younger self, signing up for intergalactic warfare, finding love, the colonization of the solar system, the search for tangible proof of a 'soul', and a dirty old crow."

Already championed by the likes of Steve Lamacq, NME, and Plan B, the six piece Bearsuit release their new album OH:IO on Fantastic Plastic and Happy Happy Birthday to Me Records soon, oh so soon. Performing on flute, guitars, keyboards, samples, cornet, singing, bells, accordion, Theremin, drums, and a "keytarplus," Bearsuit are the perfect band to launch your happy freaky weekend.

Bring Me the Head of Femur

For something completely different Head of Femur rock us back to the US, compiling their love of Elliot Murphy, Bay City Rollers, Dave Clark Five and Iggy Pop into a collective unconsciousness. "Great Plains sheds the excessive glory of past efforts and focuses on immediate melodies and whip-smart song structures to produce the band's best set of songs to date," boasts the press sheet blather, but heck, if I don't agree. Right on.  Poppy cock rock!
