MP3s: Moshing Plastina & 40 Golden Hits Of Googoosh!

Posted Tue Aug 5, 2008 5:18pm PDT by Ken Micallef in Better Living Through MP3

There is something incredibly annoying about Mexican electro rockers Plastilina Mosh. Like Pennsylvania's slobbering cousins Ween slumming with a band of drunken banditos, Plastilina Mosh spit like swine, croon like intoxicated frat boys, all the while working clever beats and samples. I love ‘em, I hate ‘em!

Plastilina Mosh released All U Need Is Mosh on August 5th. The new studio disc is a follow-up to a Best Of collection released on EMI. Way back when Plastilina Mosh released Aquamosh, their debut album produced by Tom Rothrock (known for his work on Beck's "Loser"). Aquamosh pressed all the right buttons with the barely old enough to drink crowd, its big hit, "Mr. P-Mosh" elevating Plastilina Mosh to star status in their native Mexico--can 1,000,000 Mexicans be wrong? Well, yes, they can!

Juan Manuel followed two years later, the Latin Grammy-nominated Hola Chicuelos was the band's last studio disc.

Please enjoy "Toll Free" and "Pervert Pop Song," then kindly forget I ever mentioned Plastilina Mosh.

Who is Googoosh?: Funny you should ask. This Iranian pop singer and actress was the most celebrated recording artist in her native land during the 1970s. Googoosh remained in Iran after the revolution of 1979 but due to the religious ban on solo female singers, ceased recording or performing until 2000. But there is magic in her voice, as heard in "Man Amadeh Am," "Khabam Ya Bidaram, and Pol." Tremulous and sensual, Googoosh's style is heart wrenching, and as sweet as the rain. She remains a star throughout the Middle East, Central Asia, and even parts of Canada.

Googoosh returned with the comeback album, Zartosht (Zoroaster), in 2000, followed by QQ Bang Bang, Akharin Khabar (Last News), Manifest, and most recently, Shabe Sepid.
