MP3s: Alias, The Incognito Traveller, And Bobby DeNiro
It's like the Psychedelic Furs, or is that Gary Numan and Tubeway Army?
Maine born knob twiddler Alias works in that shadowy space between misty-morned horror soundtracks and friendly ambient/electronic gurgles. His first album in five years, Resurgam recalls nothing less than Boards Of Canada, Prefuse 73, FourTet and that eerie Tubeway King.
Resurgam includes two collaborative tracks. "Well Water Black" features the falsettos croons and low-fi lyrics of WHY?'s Yoni Wolf--a perfect swab of spoiled brat downer music that practically unites the Cure and Burial before crashing into a rambunctious drum solo. Near the album's end, the One AM Radio guests on "The Weathering," which paints a regretful dream-scene via arctic lyrics and hoarfrost sensualities.

The Incognito Traveller's Traffic - Mediterranean Moonrise EP: Like some sensuous travel video soundtrack performed by actual musicians rather than a single geek with a synth, Traffic - Mediterranean Moonrise EP rustles the wind in the brain, matches vinyl crackle with pristine acoustic guitar rhythms, and daubs in space sounds as if channeling a flight to Mars and back again.
