Mandy Moore Marriage Shocker: Says "I Do" In Private!

Posted Sat Mar 14, 2009 11:40am PDT by Blender Magazine in The Blender Burner

When celebrities say they are looking for privacy, they usually mean they are looking for more publicity of something that should be private, like the birth of a child or a wedding. So when we heard that actress/singer-songwriter Mandy Moore and alt-country demigod Ryan Adams had gotten hitched in a private ceremony in Savannah, Georgia, we were like, yeah, sure, riiiiight. There were probably 400,000 photogs who just happened to have the address and time emailed to their Blackberries right before the ceremony started.

We are now officially ashamed of such cynical thinking. (Mandy's next album, Amanda Lee, doesn't even come out until May. There is officially no PR value to this happening at this time at all. It's real life!) Turns out the couple, who recently got back together and then got engaged shortly thereafter, actually did want to be alone on one of the most important days of their lives. They got married in a small church, accompanied only by a pastor they'd just met, and they didn't even change out of their usual outfits; Moore wore a simple white dress and sandals, Adams wore skinny jeans, sneakers, and a T-shirt with a tie.

While we're feeling all sappy about famous people being in love, let's discuss Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen, who got married just a few weeks ago in another successfully intimate ceremony in Santa Monica. So what if Bundchen and her dogs were both wearing Dolce & Gabbana--there weren't swarms of paparazzi there or flocks of famous friends mugging for the cameras. It was small, elegant, and classy. Nice work, famous people!

Before we start misrepresenting modern celebrity life as a series of blissful marriages executed in a tasteful way, let's discuss The Bachelor. This was a match that was supposed to take place in the least private way possible: on reality TV. So we shouldn't be surprised that when Jason Mesnick decided to ditch his fiancé Melissa Rycroft, he did so on national television. And we guess we also shouldn't be surprised that it looks like Rycroft wasn't so devastated by her humiliation at the hands of ABC television execs that she was unwilling to take a spot on ABC's Dancing With The Stars. "I don't plan on making a career out of this," she said of her return to reality TV. "I promise!"

Yup, and that dude made you a promise when he got down on one knee and gave you a diamond ring.

I fail to see how simple, discreet wedding ceremonies could be compared to the tripe known as "The Bachelor".

I want to know what he slipped in her drink to make her fall madly in love with him. Probably the same thing K-Fed slipped in Britney's bottled water. I want to order some!

AP
Fri Nov 27, 2009 4:03am PST

AP - Noisy crowds in smoky bars don't bother 96-year-old bluesman Pinetop Perkins. It's all part of his job. Most nights, after he snuffs out his menthol cigarette, Perkins slides onto the piano bench in some club and … More »
