Kanye West Caught Lip-Synching?

Posted Fri Dec 19, 2008 3:35pm PST by Blender Magazine in The Blender Burner

Kanye West is well-known for two things: his awesome rapping and his arrogance. The guy's music is so intensely good it (almost) justifies his God complex. Every time the rapper gets onstage at some awards show and accepts one statue by claiming he should have won another one, we usually have to agree. West has encouraged us to expect such a superhuman level of perfection from him, it was inevitable he would one day not be able to meet it.

That day was last Saturday, when West performed on Saturday Night Live. Dude did not sound good. He was more American Idol blooper reel than Grammy-winning polished performer. So what was the problem? Well, it had something to do with the Auto-Tune feature--you know the part of "Love Lockdown" where he sings about a system overload and losing control? Well, he was living it! And it was also pretty clear that when he got to the high notes, he pulled away from the mic and let an offstage singer handle the tough stuff. The bottom line is that we saw behind the curtain of Kanye West's seemingly impenetrable awesomeness. So was it satisfying to witness the world's most egocentric rapper all exposed on national television? No, no it was not. People were outraged. How dare he...sound so bad!

The outrage was so intense that it morphed into a bizarre lip-synching accusation. Instead of blaming Kanye West for putting on a sub-par performance, people attacked him for revealing that all those robotic tweaks in his songs are not, you know, organically produced. (Um, guys, there's no Santa Claus, either).

We say the scandal is not that Kanye lip-synched through a live TV performance, but that he failed to lip-synch through a live TV performance. If he'd had all the right bells and whistles on board, we would have been all like, "Wow, this rules," rather than all like, "Wow, this hurts our ears." Just sayin'.

Kanye is a moron! One day you will all look back on Kanye and realize what a talentless, egocentric prick he is.

yea Mr. west can suck it. I hope he burns in hell with his mama and all the other no talent hacks mtv has come up with. Why people like his music is beyond me. Gwar is the only band in the world not to sell out. West can rap about as good as britney spears. 3rd grader ryme scheme give me a break not him.

83. Chad -
please dont put kanye and tupac in the same sentence he doesnt deserve any comparison

you know what, i don't appreciate the negativity towards Kanye.. You can hate as much as you wish but the fact of the matter is that, even after you finish dissing him, he's still gonna be a grammy award winner and he's still gonna drop hits.. After hit, after hit.

Ok Ok...the name calling is not necessary...but I must agree with some of the name callers (LOL). I think that Kanye will be more likable if he was a little more humble...the god-like arrogance is HIGHLY unattractive and he does act like a spoil brat...but besides that, he's a good rapper (note I said RAPPER not SINGER).

I have never liked him he is an arrogant person; I guess he acts like that to make up for himself being so unattractive. He is UGLy inside and out. He is also a racist. Can't stand him myself.

YOU SUCK you no talented bum

The auto-tune effect he is trying to pull off is super hard to do live. It's a studio tool and he just f'ed up the execution of it in this situation. I will admit that Kanye is an incredible producer but he should produce other people stuff because his rapping is not the best. Same with Timberland. Stick to producing guys, you flow is wack.

If you read anything from Blender just ignore it. They don't know real talent at all. They hate on the Doors and then proclaim this idiot as god. Kayne hasn't had one good song, not one. Not a single song of his will be playing even in a couple of years. You will all feel duped the same way you did when you bought nsync and backstreet boys records. People have no taste in music anymore at all. Thank god for classic rock.

He sucks. I don't understand any of the unwarranted hype surrounding this hack. What a joke. If this is the best we have to offer, we're in serious trouble.

KAYNE SUCKS LARGE DICK. He voice sounds like a dieing dog. Kayne's voice sounded way better a couple of years ago.

P.S. Lil Wayne iza beast

98. gary -
i hear all u crybabies defending kanye, if u love him so much go suck his dick

I guess the voice of this generation can't even sing for himself! Not that anyone recognized his self proclaimed title to begin with...Most people would choose Screatch before Kanye if they were the only choices.

It used to be that the more he opened his mouth, the less people could stand him, now open or shut, he is soon to be a distant bad memory1

When it comes to gauging his musical genius, I think because he pats himself on the back more than others it leads him to experiment a little more to keep an edge on his musical counterparts, and harsh realities may be the consequence. As far as the him pushing the envelope on his fashion statements, in my opinion and based on Kanye's own admission of being percieved as gay in his youth may have had a lingering effect as a result because he is a star now he flaunts to those who mocked him in years past by saying what you say was gay, i have u wanting to be or dress like me because of my fame and fortune. Nah Nah. i always thought there was a too eccentric for the hood vibe bout him anyway, now he doesn't care if you feel that way though.
