David Archuleta, Framed

Posted Mon Oct 13, 2008 11:28am PDT by John Kordosh in Framed

Regular readers know that we absolutely love American Idol. Unlike some hoity-toity rock critics who turn up their nose at what's really popular, Framed isn't ashamed to admit that we not only watch the show, we read Lyndsey Parker's fine, fine Y! Music blog religiously during the season.

(One note about Lyndsey's fine, fine blog: we discovered last year that LP evidently posts her Idol musings after watching the East Coast feed of Idol. Readers like us, who live on the West Coast, can find their entire evening, nay, life, ruined when she posts before they even get to watch the show. Seriously, it happened to us, so watch out.)

And speaking of Idol, it's a big week. Last year's most intriguing contestant, runner-up David Archuleta, has his first video out, for his first single, "Crush." The song, which has been called "hip and contemporary" by no less than Entertainment Weekly--well, that's that, we guess--deals with David's crush on a girl.

Is it age-appropriate? Billboard says "yes!" So we can move on.

It's a pretty good video. It seems to be about some sort of summer camp or whatever, and has David pining over a pretty blond girl. They flirt, Dave sings, and they share a laugh. Good times.

We hope you enjoy "Crush" and look forward to hearing what you think of David's post-Idol career. Will he be the biggest star ever, or not the biggest star ever? If not, will it be because some sort of conspiracy is holding him back and we should all be paranoid at how easily we're controlled by the powers that be?

Food for thought, readers. Food for thought.

1 - Dave's dad, Jeff, is only too happy to point out his son's many, many driving errors.

2 - "Hey there, handsome. Know any sweet Mormon songs?"

3 - "Over here, gang! David Cook in concert!! And singing the greatest hits of Taylor Hicks!!!"

4 - Framed is pleased to announce that the girl in the middle is our next American Idol! You know, if there's a God and stuff.

5 - Archie ponders buoyancy, volumetric displacement and why he's such a wimp.

6 - "Ah gits weary an' sick of tryin'. Ah'm tired of livin' an' skeered of dyin'. But Ol' Man River, he jes' keeps rolling along."

7 - "Damn, I am the blues."

8 - "You mean I can actually post my own opinions about the captions in this week's Framed, which are uniformly great, I hasten to add?? Get out!!"

9 - "OK, everybody smile and pretend this isn't an angst-filled time of life that will seemingly never end."

10 - "Brigham Young's the son of God, doo dah, doo dah..."

11 - "...50 wives and I applaud, all the doo dah day!"

12 - "So Utah's actually a state?? G'wan!"

13 - "Now do one about the Watchtower Society and the truth about Armageddon!"

Those who hold nothing sacred are incapable of respecting that which is held sacred by others. Weather or not that is applicable in this case is left to the discretion of the individual reader.

the Mormon jabs were uncalled for and totally offensive. Just because someone lives a religious life style doesn't give you premission to be a jerk and mock them with misguided information. Because of this blogs rude and uncalled for insults to David and all Mormons (and all good upstanding people for that matter), I will not read anything posted by this blog and I encourage others to do the same and not support this blogger in their crude and untastful articles.

I would recommend that the next time you make a comment or remark about a religon or religous group to ensure that you have your facts straight. The Watchtower Society as you call it is in no way related or linked to the Mormon faith. The Watchtower Society is associated with Jehovah's Witnesses.

OMG!! DAVID ARCHULETA IS MORMON???? WHAT??

31. CamberleaJ -
I'm a mormon and I found the posts to be kind of funny... :) Anyways, my issue was that whoever was in charge of the music video put girls in there that were wearing immodest clothing, which doesn't go along with his religion. It would have been SO much better if all the clothing was appropriate... I LOVE the song though. It is so cute!

John Kordosh you ought to be ashamed of yourself for writing a complete crap article that is just calculated to incite people.your framed captions were very silly and discriminatory.

David is not just a great singer, he has a gift musically which is very rare in today’s music industry; His voice compels you to stop everything and listen to him .He commands your attention, pulls you into a song and only lets you go when he is through singing. He wraps the words of the song around you and makes you really connect and believe what he sings simply because it comes straight from his soul piercing into your soul. Then of cause he is a humble kid and a great role model for teenager around the world.

He is these and more and all you could come up with is this stupid article.please if you don't have any good thing to write about david hold your peace.
for the record; i love Crush and the video isso innocent and beautiful.the song is the best interpretation of a first crush out there.

He will be a big star. He has the ability to make songs alive. Give him any song. He will completely absorb it and make it his own. His connection with lyrics and audience who listens is another level above his age (As Paula once said so). His album will have full of surprises. I'll buy some and give others for a Christmas gift. On Youtube, his childhood songs are all over the places. He has so many reportoir.

Saw him sing God Bless America this weekend during the 7th inning of the alcs he was dreadful

John,
I found a clip on Youtube. He sang "Be Still My Soul" in a small meeting with troubled teens. I am not a Mormon. But I know this song is one of famous hymns. This clip shows how pure his voice is. It doesn't matter when and where he sings. He always seems to pursue perfection in singing.

Daniel r,
He sang it wonderfully. My radio DJ said many people requested God Bless America by David A after his performance. The DJ played it for a short time, then he cut it off, saying that on radio, they don't play a song like that, then he laughed. I watched him singing and he can sing!!

Thanks so much for this article John Kordosh. I don't take seriously about David's faith. Nothing wrong about his religion. I thought you just entartaining us right ?. as long as I know from the beginning of his audition on American Idol Show until now, David James Archuleta is wonderful inside and outside.
Can't wait for his first Album Release on Tue Nov 11,2008.

omg i love u david!!! your soooooooooooooooooooo hot and talented!!! =]DAVID U ROCK!!!=]

I happen to think David is an extremely talented and down right nice kid. His religion has absolutely nothing to do with you or anyone reading this article. He is gonna go so far in his career and alot of it will have to do with his morals and talent. I am not mormon but I feel you have no right speaking of his religion. Let's just enjoy him and his music and leave his personal religion out of your article. Just think, something made him as wonderful a kid as he is. Let's just enjoy his music and watch him grow in to a talented man. He'll be around for a long time.

I personally, absolutely love David's voice and style. I applaud him for writing and singing a clean song. So many today are chock full of inappropriate innuendos and language. The first captions were funny, and then Mormon belief's were brought in. They could have been worse, but the fact that David's a Mormon is something we should respect him for and not laugh about. Religion isn't a laughing matter. Many of the information was also incorrect, which is just passing along all of the crap rumors about Mormons. Brigham Young is a son of God, as is everyone else on this Earth (the ladies obviously daughters). And Mormons USED TO practice polygamy, but only so that all women would have a husband who could support them. If you have to talk about his religion, talk about the true and good, not the rumors that make Mormons out to be weird or bad.
