David Archuleta, Framed

Posted Mon Oct 13, 2008 11:28am PDT by John Kordosh in Framed

Regular readers know that we absolutely love American Idol. Unlike some hoity-toity rock critics who turn up their nose at what's really popular, Framed isn't ashamed to admit that we not only watch the show, we read Lyndsey Parker's fine, fine Y! Music blog religiously during the season.

(One note about Lyndsey's fine, fine blog: we discovered last year that LP evidently posts her Idol musings after watching the East Coast feed of Idol. Readers like us, who live on the West Coast, can find their entire evening, nay, life, ruined when she posts before they even get to watch the show. Seriously, it happened to us, so watch out.)

And speaking of Idol, it's a big week. Last year's most intriguing contestant, runner-up David Archuleta, has his first video out, for his first single, "Crush." The song, which has been called "hip and contemporary" by no less than Entertainment Weekly--well, that's that, we guess--deals with David's crush on a girl.

Is it age-appropriate? Billboard says "yes!" So we can move on.

It's a pretty good video. It seems to be about some sort of summer camp or whatever, and has David pining over a pretty blond girl. They flirt, Dave sings, and they share a laugh. Good times.

We hope you enjoy "Crush" and look forward to hearing what you think of David's post-Idol career. Will he be the biggest star ever, or not the biggest star ever? If not, will it be because some sort of conspiracy is holding him back and we should all be paranoid at how easily we're controlled by the powers that be?

Food for thought, readers. Food for thought.

1 - Dave's dad, Jeff, is only too happy to point out his son's many, many driving errors.

2 - "Hey there, handsome. Know any sweet Mormon songs?"

3 - "Over here, gang! David Cook in concert!! And singing the greatest hits of Taylor Hicks!!!"

4 - Framed is pleased to announce that the girl in the middle is our next American Idol! You know, if there's a God and stuff.

5 - Archie ponders buoyancy, volumetric displacement and why he's such a wimp.

6 - "Ah gits weary an' sick of tryin'. Ah'm tired of livin' an' skeered of dyin'. But Ol' Man River, he jes' keeps rolling along."

7 - "Damn, I am the blues."

8 - "You mean I can actually post my own opinions about the captions in this week's Framed, which are uniformly great, I hasten to add?? Get out!!"

9 - "OK, everybody smile and pretend this isn't an angst-filled time of life that will seemingly never end."

10 - "Brigham Young's the son of God, doo dah, doo dah..."

11 - "...50 wives and I applaud, all the doo dah day!"

12 - "So Utah's actually a state?? G'wan!"

13 - "Now do one about the Watchtower Society and the truth about Armageddon!"

Like all religions, it's a bunch of man-made up crap. Try reading up on the origins of Mormonism. Scary crap.

62. David -
