David Cook, Framed
Our favorite musical experience these days, like that of most people, is American Idol. We love it all...the tension...the competition... David Archuleta's fame-crazed father trying to micromanage his kid...Sanjaya Malakar...speculation about Paula Abdul's habits...basically, the whole thing. Just remember: they wouldn't put it on TV if it wasn't really good.
As we look ahead to Season Eight, then, it's peculiarly apt to salute last year's winner, David Cook. Locked in a death-duel with young Archuleta, Cook carried the day with some big performances on the Idol finale. And now, Cook has released his first post-Idol album, Songs About Mules--whoops, we mean David Cook!--a brand new slab of product that will hopefully propel the gifted vocalist to the top.
This week's video, "Light On," is the first single from Cook's new LP and it tells the tale of what appears to be true love between some girl and a busboy in a restaurant. We have to confess that it's not exactly the most riveting video to ever appear in this blog. It does, though, feature a lot of David Cook grimacing, so, in that sense, it's a big success.
Readers may be interested to know that Archie is beating out Cook on the charts--"Crush," Archuleta's first single, is at #22, while "Light On" dropped off to #89 in its second week.
What does it all mean? Is the Era of Cook over already? Was Archuleta the rightful winner of Season Seven? We await your verdict, readers.
1 -- "Good
Lord, woman! That's not 'still
fresh!'"
2 --
"Tickets to the 'Waitressing Finals?' You're kidding me, right?"
3 -- "In
another era, I could've been in an A-ha video. I could've been somebody."
4 -- "When
I said to leave the light on, I actually didn't mean to actually and literally
leave it on me."
5 -- "Why
can't you just admit you ate all the fries?"
6 -- "If I
study this one closely I can no doubt improve on the Idol genus," thought
Gummo, The Sentient Bubble.
7 --
"Perhaps I can simply wish away
the many other superior Idols."
8 -- It turned
out that flying without your jetpack wasn't quite as simple as it might've
seemed.
9 -- David
proudly advertises his allegiance to "alternating" in the
never-ending War of Currents!
10 -- "See,
I don't really like all that indie
music. I just said I liked all that
indie music."
11 -- "Of course I've always wanted to take a
ride on a bicycle!"
12 --
"Yeah! I thought Syesha was better,
too!"

Well actually you do, but more often then not you make me laugh.
