Rascal Flatts, Framed

Posted Mon Dec 22, 2008 12:22pm PST by John Kordosh in Framed

Getting into Framed more than once isn't easy. To date, the only ones to do it have been Justin Timberlake, Michael Jackson, Miley Cyrus, Daughtry and Britney Spears, and they're probably the most talented people on Earth, along with Framed. And now, this week--surprisingly!--Rascal Flatts joins this heady group.

We'd like to say that it's because RF makes videos that are so compelling that we simply have no choice in the matter. But that would be ridiculous and no one would believe us.

No, the real reason is that we were looking at various Christmas-themed videos and, when we heard their version of "I'll Be Home For Christmas," decided that its seasonal excellence needed to be shared. The song appears on their latest album, Greatest Hits Vol. 1, and, rendered a capella, delivers the sense of wistfulness inherent in the Christmas classic. The video itself, shot at New York City's Roosevelt Hotel in November, is as straightforward as the song, and also evocative of the warmth of the season.

So, happy holidays to all our readers and, as always, we welcome your posts!

1 -- "Hmm.  Adding Christmas songs to our Greatest Hits album in a cynical attempt to boost sales may just work!"

2 -- "It will be amusing to hypnotize the country human into seeing me as multiple Gummos," thought Gummo, The Sentient Bubble.

3 -- Wow! It was the biggest snowfall ever!

4 -- Bedford Falls has just kept getting better!

5 -- "You may be right. A dimly-lit hotel lobby may be inadequate for a blog in desperate in need of visual humor."

6 -- Now that Rascal Flatts ringtones were available, anything, no matter how preposterous, seemed possible!

7 -- "It will now be simple to insert a false memory of musical competence into the human's brain."

8 -- "Well, hell yes. Ah'll go down t' the fillin' station fer a soda pop. Hell, yes!"

9 -- "A Christmas without derivative, repetitive, country renditions of otherwise excellent seasonal songs? Not on my watch!"

10 -- And, after levitating the ornament, the witch would use her powers to rob country pop of all its melody!!

11 -- "Why, soulless metal is better than organic life! The Bible was right!!"

12 -- Country music fans are excited that Johnny Cash's shadow has decided to start doing cameos!

It's hard to call Rascal Flatts country. I just concider them as a boy band.

Just wondering: For frame #1, wouldn't the word (actually more like phrase) is "marketing-ploy" not "Cynical".

Cynical just means skeptical of human intentions; doubting the good in man.

Marketing Ploy: something used to boost sales...

And why so many italics?

D33: The cynicism refers to Rascal Flatts themselves. In the caption (not in real life, of course), they're admitting that adding the Xmas songs is cynicism on their part. Using Christmas for thir own small purposes.

As for the italics, Y! Music makes us put them in! We think they have a stylebook that demands excessive exclamation points and italics!

!!

Its always heartbreaking when a band wants to go home for Christmas. Like The Mutants when they were stuck on the planet Jarvic 7 for Christmas. Somebody better warn Rascal Flatts about those Psychodelic Tornados!

Well, heck, Jennifer. Can the long-awaited Mutants vs. Rascal Flatts "Framed," a smackdown for the ages, be far off?
