Soulja Boy Tell 'Em, Framed

Posted Mon Mar 9, 2009 12:34pm PDT by John Kordosh in Framed
Soulja Boy Tell 'Em--DeAndre Way--has been a controversial figure since he burst on the national scene. A self-created star, he recorded his monstrous "Crank That" at the age of 16, and it hit #1 on Billboard shortly after he turned 17.

The naysayers were soon out in full force. Entertainment Weekly declared its album, souljaboytellem.com, the worst LP of 2007. Ice-T said Soulja was "killing hip-hop." Others referred to Soulja as "the Terri Schiavo of hip-hop."

Framed, of course, is sensationally fair and democratic; thus, we're pleased to present Soulja's "Bird Walk" as our video this week. The song is off his second album, iSouljaBoyTellEm, which hasn't fared as well on the charts as his first disc. Still, we're curious as to how our readers see Soulja Boy. Does his dance-styled rap spell the death of relevant hip-hop? Or is it merely a case of the old guard being reluctant to give up their place in the sun? Please let us know your thoughts...Soulja Boy: ringtone god or not?!

1 -- "Why, sure. I get to park all of Ice-T's cars."

2 -- "And, in addition to showing the future, they also screen out annoying UV rays."

3 -- "And this line means you're destined for a cameo in the worst music video yet!"

4 -- Soulja Boy explains that moving money expeditiously is key to tha economy of tomorrow.

5 -- "Check it out, guys! The visiting team is non-planar!"

6 -- "You'll like it, baby. It's called Rohypnol."

7 -- But could even Gummo defeat a Sentient Prolate Spheroid??

8 -- He could put a brave face on it, but the search for giant cartoon worms really wasn't going very well.

9 -- Winning the championship was great, but it was water baptism that would make the coach right with God.

10-- The glory days, the Fleetwood Mac gigs...all just a dim memory now.

11 -- "Hey! Where'd my lyrical complexity go?!"

12 -- "And when I worked fixing electrical appliances, I was affectionately known as Solder Boy."

Wow Kordosh, nice, nice....#6...hahaha....

Great, great framed, 8/12 were funny.

As for Soulja Boy, I take it all back, he is not the worst rapper. See, its actually BrokeNCYDE that is the worst rap band. A thousand apologies Soulja (though your still terrrible), you have been dethroned as the worst rapper....ever...

Yes, the omnipotent Gummo can defeat anything and anyone!

he even says it in this video...."soulja boy tellem for the KIDZ like Disney" He aint tryin to be Pac or Dre or anything like that. He was 16, clearly loved to dance, has a thing for hip hop so he put em together. wtf were yall doin in the club before he put out his dances??? twistn from side to side? get outa here. give em his credit. If ANY of you could make as much as he does just having fun you'd ALL do it no matter what ANYBODY says and you know it. I bet every last one of you haters know how to "crank dat" haha my point exactly. You hate it but look at you now. I aint his biggest fan but i aint no hater either. Let em make his money

7. gridgegurl@yahoo.com -
Whoever wrote that should be ashamed of their selves. I dont see you making smash hits so you need to stop hating on Soulja Boy`s swagger

8. Shavonda -
I completely agree with Juicemayne32. You are so right. Everybody is hating on soulja boy but I am sure they love to do all his dances. Although his music may not be "real hip hop" and it may not be the greatest, lets be honest its fun and it gives you something to do in the club.

yo ya just hatin on soulja boy. i think he is my favorie singer. especially his song called kiss me through the phone. he has an awsome voice. i listen to this song like a million times a day. his voice is not perfect in other songs but i believe that in this one it is.

10. donalds -
i like his music. it kinda reminds me of dancehall with the dancing thing. also, don't look at his music as not true hip hop but rather the beginning of a new genre.

SOULJA BOY IS FOR THE KIDS.

14. bunny d -
wait he doesnt curse. Ha you have only heard clean songs. And "crank that" isnt exactly a great song for kids but it is over their heads. Crank that is about if a girl wont have sex with a male for the male to beat off on her back and put the sheet on her back like a cape. Thus creating superman that h0e.

I like his music as much as i try not to. its ccatchy and gets stuck in my head. but isnt tthat what an artist is suppose to do?

15. Zak S -
Neither Soulja Boy's music or hip-hop is actually music, thus, this entire blog is useless.

He sucks
