Coldplay, Framed

Posted Mon May 11, 2009 1:29pm PDT by John Kordosh in Framed
Whew! We just made it back to 2009 in time for this week's blog! Regular readers know that we took an extended vacation in the 1980s, where we enjoyed their simple musical stylings...but it's great to be back home!

As far as the '80s go, it was a nice time to visit but we sure wouldn't want to live there. Did you know that George Bush's dad used to be the Vice President of the United States?? It's true! Back in those days, Americans actually didn't utterly despise the Republican Party. Go figure!

Let's get to this week's video, a 21st century effort, and a prize-winner by all accounts. We're featuring Coldplay, the great alt rock band out of England, and their 2002 song, "The Scientist." The song--prominent piano and strings, very Coldplayish--was on their excellent A Rush Of Blood To The Head album, which won the 2003 Grammy for Best Alternative Album and is also ranked #65 on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's list of the "The Definitive 200 Albums Of All Time."

On top of all that, "The Scientist" won three MTV Video Music Awards, including "Breakthrough Video." So it's very likely that this is the greatest video ever, and we're very pleased to feature it this week. Chris Martin is the only Coldplayer in it and--is this synchronicity or what?--he travels through time in it! Just like us! In this case, Chris is involved in a horrible car accident, which we only realize as it plays out in reverse order, as he travels back to the scene and time of the whole thing.

Drama of the highest order? A weak and stupid attempt at relevance that will never be theirs? No one can say save the readers of Framed, the best-looking people on Earth!

1 -- "I know all about science 'cuz I can do me sums!"

2 -- "Can I get there in time to stop Gwyneth from saddling the child with a preposterous name?"

3 -- It's Chris Martin vs. Pumpkinhead, and the stakes have never been higher!

4 -- "Heed me, basketball humans! Lakers in six!" decreed Gummo, The Sentient Bubble.

5 -- "Before we go any further, let's see if gravity is still working."

6 -- "The once-proud civilization that built this artifact must've surely rejected evolutionary theory."

7 -- "Well, there's the trees. Now, where the heck is that forest?"

8 -- "They shot the dog / And he was rabid, too / That ending really blew / Yeah, it was 'Old Yeller.'"

9 -- How could he stop him, now that Thom Yorke was giant-sized??

10 -- "Perhaps I can just sleep away the entire Coldplay era."

11 -- "'Oh, judge! We've never even heard Satriani's song!' Heh heh heh."

12 -- "Have you ever thought that the driver being on the right hand side is not only counter-intuitive, but dangerously psychotic?"
