DMX, Framed

Posted Mon Jun 1, 2009 12:03pm PDT by John Kordosh in Framed

If you're a regular reader of our blog, welcome back. This week's Framed may well be the internet's single finest moment!

We'll ask you to bear with us for a minute, though. Every now and again, we like to explain Framed to our new readers. So, if you're a newbie here, listen up:

1) Framed is a blog that features a different music video every week. We go through the vid and freeze still pictures, which we then caption in English for your convenience.

2) But wait! Our captions aren't descriptive, but are--rather--irreverent and topical. Yes, it's a twist no one ever thought of before.

3) We then cash the check Y! Music sends us, making the whole experience win/win. Or, at the very least, win.

4) Insanely democratic, Framed features music from all genres, from country to rap, purely for your enjoyment. Feel free to make suggestions about videos you think we should highlight.

That's how it works and we hope you'll become a weekly visitor to Framed. This week we're featuring rap icon DMX, whose "Party Up (Up In Here)"--a 1999 release--is still in Y! Music's Top 100 videos even as we speak.

DMX's real name is Earl Simmons; his nom de plume stands for "Dark Man X." An overachiever, his first five albums entered the Billboard charts at #1. Seriously, DMX has done it all, having written his autobiography, starred in his own reality series, and being arrested multiple times. He's sort of a renaissance rapper.

"Party Up," from his third album, is a "heist/mistaken identity" video with an amusing and winning plot, and it's really a catchy song, too. You're sure to love it, so let the good times roll and let us know what you think!

Important blog note! It's time, once again, to respond to some of the thoughtful comments you readers have posted over the last five or six weeks. As always, we're fascinated by your takes on music, music videos, and--really--everything. Just remember, you can't be honored in this way unless you take the time to post in the first place, so let's get going here.

From the "Alvin & The Chipmunks Framed": "I feel this was one of the greatest movies made, for all factors you just get to sit back and laugh, and injoy a good clean movie."--patricithomas5944@att.net

Framed replies: Bleep it. We just want a hula hoop.

From the "Justin Moore Framed": "You know, if you only surveyed country music videos, it would be plenty funny."--Jennifer Cohen

Framed replies: And if we only surveyed Kelly Clarkson videos, it would be plenty queer.

From the "Rush Framed": "I just saw too many insults to both Canadians and Rush fans to see a sense of humor. Sheesh..."--Kuroma Essen

Framed replies: Framed would never insult Rush or their fans! We like Canadia and the hockey men and so forth!

From the "N.W.A. Framed": "I would love to see you talk your crap, when any of the N.W.A members are in your face. You know what will happen, right?"--sealord

Framed replies: A deep, profoundly spiritual empathy that will show the children the way?

From the "Coldplay Framed": "I really liked Frame # 8, and I can only imagine that the caption was set to the tune of 'Yellow,' am I right?"--Yahoo! Music User

Framed replies: We wrote a blog. We wrote a blog for you. And then we plumbed the loo. (The floor was all yellow.)

"wow i had never seen this video before and i agree it is definitly one of the best videos ever... anyone else notice that david cook's "come back to me" is quite similliar?...."--alexa

Framed replies: Everybody but our friend Lyndsey Parker, who led Cook's media-orchestrated "victory" over Framed fave David Archuleta.

From the "Taylor Hicks Framed": "Taylor Hicks is the WORST AI winner - BY FAR.

Adam Lambert will be the BEST AI winner - BY FAR."--Guy W

Framed replies: What, is he gonna be in it again next year?

1 -- "I'll escape that ant's wrath by hiding behind this hard-to-move rubber tree plant."

2 -- "Man!  Nobody's better than Kurupt!"

3 -- Today's hot new game--bowling for humans--is sweeping the nation!

4 -- "Look, McClane, all this 'yippee ki yay motherf****r' crap's gonna kill any TV deal for this movie!"

5 -- "Screw it! I'm picking the University of Multiple Wives at Salt Lake City to go all the way in this year's pool!"

6 -- "Remember, men: this may be our only chance to stop those bent on transforming our constitutional republic into a socialist utopia."

7 -- "A Dark Man Y and a Dark Man Z? Unthinkable!"

8 -- "But can even these high-powered rifles kill a being whose head is a pumpkin??"

9 -- "Why, yes. Yes, I am driving four whores around town. How can I help you, Governor Spitzer?"

10 -- "Hmm. According to this government document, homosexuals may actually have rights."

11 -- "Get me the President! I'm almost certain that Gummo hasn't appeared in this week's Framed!"

12 -- Would the cameo by Wire give DMX punk credibility? No one knew!

Guy W was right!

John, this Framed had a few hilarious captions: Frames one, five, and nine. What I really thought was funny was your response to the comment posted by Kuroma Essen. I sure would like to knock back a few cold ones with you at a tavern somewhere in Canadia, that is, if you are also humorous outside of your workplace......Oh, and both Gummo and Gunno are invited, Just tell them I am picking up the tab.

3. DUDE -
Thank God that Gummo arrived in the nick of time!.....

4. Sirfir_Girl -
what!!! NO GUMMO!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

5. __A_YAHOO_USER__ -
After a slight lackluster start, by caption 5 the framed is full gear and hilarious. Kordosh, your comments on Spitzer and Gay Rights were very very witty. (And as punk fan, A+ for caption 12!). Keep up the pumpkin head references =D

But as a suggestion: Could you frame an Anthrax video? P'haps What Doesn't Die?

6. Doctor Money -
That top 100 has not changed in the past 4 months
