Michael Jackson, Framed
Here at Framed, we like to look back on great videos of the past every now and again. That's why we had no problem with doing Michael Jackson's "Man In The Mirror" this week. It was one of the singles off of MJ's Bad album--way back in 1988--when he was still riding high on the sales of Thriller, the best-selling album of all the nine dimensions. As a single it hit #1 in the spring of 1988.
So when the team proposed we feature "Man In The Mirror," we--quite logically--agreed. Who did more for music video than Michael Freaking Jackson? Plus, we assumed we'd be writing a lot of captions about Mm Ra, The-Mirror-Who-Is-More-Than-Man.
And, hey, we really like Mm Ra!
But no! It turned out that not only was Mm Ra not in the video, neither was Michael Jackson! Holy cow! No Mm Ra...no Michael...why the heck would we even try to foist this on our streetwise readers?
Well, we guess it was one of those situations we asked for when we hired our staff of Sri Lankans--Llewellyn, Warren and Cindy, in case you forgot--so we decided to suck it up and just write the damned captions. We're pretty sure you'll like them, too, because they feature some of the most prominent figures of the 20th century...although, sadly, not Mm Ra. We also invite you to watch the video in its entirety, because it's really kind of affecting. MJ may be a strange cat, but his pleas for peace and understanding here seem quite heartfelt.
1 - The meetings of the Yahoo! Music editorial staff really have gotten way too casual!
2 - "People of Earth! Salutations from Planet Inbreedo!"
3 - Needless to say, the Rice-A-Roni Foundation was horribly embarrassed by the misspelling!
4 -The year was 1943, and America's revered Sentient Bubble, Gummo, would take no more of Hitler's guff!
5 - "Let's see... Ich bin ein... ein... beer lender?... bar leaner?... Dammit, nothing seems to fit!"
6 - "And if you do make it, it will be the littlest field goal of all time!"
7 - Of course, in the "jive" language of youth, "crazy" meant, like, cool, daddy-o!
8 - It's clear why Richard Kimble's slipshod description of the killer had led police badly astray.
9 - "Viva la revolucion! Viva paper towels!"
10 - "Mr. Gorbachev, this sweet commemorative Monopoly set will put the Cold War behind us!"
11 - "And I had another dream! Something about pork rinds, as I recall."
12 - "I love you, Willy! Flipper's death wasn't suspicious like everybody says!"
13 - "And then bad people with harpoons will kill us. Down we go!"
14 - Astronauts report that, as seen from the Moon, the Earth seems stupendously large and well-nigh indestructible.

America needs to wake up.
We are all one!.
Hooray for Michael for making such a strong song and video.
