The Beatles, Framed

Posted Wed Nov 14, 2007 12:13pm PST by John Kordosh in Framed

The Beatles' second movie, Help!, has just been released as a digitally remastered, expanded DVD, and we find it apt to salute the Fab Four right here in Framed.  In many ways, the Beatles' movies set the tone for what would become music video... certainly, A Hard Day's Night and Help! were the inspiration for the Monkees' TV show, which, in turn, became a template of sorts for music video when MTV hit.

Our video, "I Need You"--only the second George Harrison composition the Beatles ever recorded--is culled from the new DVD, and it features the spectacularly popular band performing out in a field somewhere, with army maneuvers going on all around them.  It's all very wacky, but very Beatlesque, somehow.

As always, we invite your comments.  Please enjoy this charming Beatles video as well as the still pictures we have very thoughtfully pulled for your enjoyment.

1 - The Beatles weren't actually better than other bands, but they did have way bigger equipment.

2 - Wow!  There really was a fog upon L.A.!

3 - Our patented Window to the Past gives Framed great historical accuracy. Pictured here, left to right: George, Llewellyn, Ringo.

4 - It was only fitting that the British people gave great tanks to the Beatles!

5 - This crude tribute to Gummo, The Sentient Bubble, is typical of the superstitious, unsophisticated people of the '60s, possibly explains the Beatles' cultural dominance.

6- "Look out, boys!  It's Helter Skelter!  And she's comin' down fast!"

7 - Seriously.  It was a British invasion!

8 - Damn!  Did we already use that "out standing in their field" gag??

9 - Fun Framed Fact: Paul and John often napped when George sang lead!  Us, too!

10 - Lennon later recanted his pretentious claim that the Beatles were "bigger than Druidism."

11 - "Then, the ‘funny hat' Framed was last week??!"

12 - Photographic evidence that everywhere there are not lots of piggies!

13 - "Someday I'll write a song about that yellow orb and its manifest all-rightness."

The Beatles were ahead of their time for the entire life of the band. Everyone was anticipating what they would do next since so much of pop culture followed suit. This movie from 1965 continued the direction set forth by "A Hard Day's Night" redefining what a pop music group was supposed to be. Everything they did was big news in a way not seen since then. As you can tell I'm a huge fan, having lived through it all.

"In many ways, the Beatles' movies set the tone for what would become music video... "

Actually, the founders of MTV sent "Help!" director Richard Lester a letter proclaiming him the "Father of the Music Video."

Lester immediately wrote back and demanded a blood test.

Who cares? Most overrated band in history! Their music was decent there's no doubt about that, but truthfully they are nowhere near the best band ever. It was all a marketing ploy, which got them their popularity.

Ya, you're right Steven. No go listen to your Fall Out Boy cds. No other band ever has or ever will make the impact that the Beatles made.

"So, I suppose you could say, in some way, we invented MTV."
