Casting Crowns, Framed

Posted Mon Dec 3, 2007 9:53am PST by John Kordosh in Framed

Hello again, readers, and welcome to Framed... The Blog That Likes You.

Here at Framed we are unafraid to take on all types of music, keeping the best interests of our valued readership above even our own likes and dislikes. In that sense, we're sort of like the cigarette-smoking newsmen of World War II who actually won the war, killed Hitler, and gave away half of Europe to the Reds.

But we digress. This week we'll be looking at the popular Christian rock band Casting Crowns, the light rockers out of Georgia who have made a big splash in the highly competitive world of popular religious music. In case you missed it, the Crowns were named "Favorite Artist" in the Contemporary Inspirational category at November's American Music Awards. It was another feather in their crown of thorns, having won a Grammy in 2006 for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album.

In this week's video, "Does Anybody Hear Her" from their Lifesong LP, the Crowns tell the story of a young woman who is lost in today's fast-paced, alcohol-guzzling society, until a goodhearted, churchgoing gal reaches out to her. Christianity: saving the day for over 2,000 years now.

Please enjoy Casting Crowns and Framed, and please feel free to post your comments, which we will read in a respectful and almost reverent manner. God bless you.

Important blog note!  Everybody's talkin' Framed, as they should!  Over at EVthreads--which is a great site devoted to Evanescence--they've cut-and-pasted our recent Evanescence blog into their own thread.  You can see it at http://www.evthreads.com/showthread.php?t=8770

Evidently, the folks at EVthreads do something like Framed themselves, writing captions of their own to various pictures of their faves. They aren't highly-paid professionals and, thus, their captions aren't quite as handsome as ours, but we'd still like to congratulate them all for their efforts. Keep trying, kids, and we'll check back with you from time to time!

1 - "Our new album has been certified Myrrh!"

2 - "And our next song is about the historical Jesus H. Ice-Skating Christ!"

3 - "If only I could conjure a rhyme for ‘people.'  Then I'd be Godly!"

4 - "Sorry, dad - I really don't know a nine-letter ‘word that describes slutty daughter damned for eternity because of her unholy lifestyle.'"

5 - "Treat me right, baby, and I just might introduce you to my old friend, Dealie Crankerson."

6 - Doing the Lord's work? Or simply fiddling around?

7 - "Do you suppose fans will find our attempt to ‘walk on water' slightly ridiculous?"

8 - "No kidding, how do Chinese people actually see??"

9 - But Flipper, a lifelong Wiccan, refused to be lured by tacky Christian stunts!

10 - "Wider? Why would everything seem wider to me?!"

11 - The business card from the world's worst criminal defense attorney actually guaranteed an unfortunate sentence!

12 - "I hope this slaughtered lamb is a fitting sacrifice to my invisible friend up there."

13 - "Seriously... the Lord approves of girl-girl relationships."

All I can say is "Awesome"!

2. Bulldog -
Actually, the song is more of an indictment on the church than it is on the girl's lifestyle. When he sings "under the shadow of our steeple, with all the lost and lonely people..." he is talking about people who are lost and lonely in the church. How else would you fall under the shadow of a steeple if not in or around the church? This song is rebuking the lazy, holier-than-thou church goers who do nothing more than play church and walk by the very people in need who they are supposed to love and care about. The church isn't perfect but God's love is. Peace out!

3. Annie -
I love it! I don't love, however, those comments you made under the pictures from the video. Yes, I do have a sense of humor, but this is a serious subject and until you've been in situations like that I don't think you have the right to make light of them. The song is amazing, the video is amazing, but your review is lacking to say the least.

The song is an inspiration! and most certainly spirit filled. It cries truth in anyway you look at it. Who ever you are, and in what ever situation your in. There is always a place and time we as humans might stray away. This song is so powerful all in its self. It speaks volumes!!
Gods Love is perfect! Only he could inspire such lyrics b/c only he knows us all.

5. somegurl -
i usually love this blog, but this week i think u were WAY out of bounds there! christianity should be taken seriously, and the captions were just ridiculous! i agree with Annie!

6. Yahoo! Music User -
Annie, if you "don't love those comments you made under the pictures from the video" then you clearly don't even understand what the Framed blog is about. THE WHOLE IDEA is to write captions (funny, and at times nasty ones) under scenes (FRAMES) from the video. Sheesh.

7. Yahoo! Music User -
Stop! People! What's that sound? Everybody look it's the END OF THE WORLD! WHHEEEEE!!!!

8. Darlene M -
Awesome song...video...horrible captions. I'm surprised CC allowed this...hope it was worth it!

I agree with Annie and somegurl the comments under the photos are totally messed up. You may not be christian or not believe in God but that doesn't give you the right to make fun of it. They are doing what they have to do for God the least you can do is respect their work and their beliefs. There are so many other videos out there that are wierd and crazy but no you had to pick on a christian one. Seriously, NOT COOL!

Just make sure you not running a hundred miles an hour in the wrong direction. God still loves you and sent his Son to die for you!

11. Yahoo! Music User -
some of you think you have all the right to critize others, especially when their impacting other peoples lives "WITH THE MESSAGE OF HOPE" , yes like the girl in the video. but can't you see all around you at hurting people? what are you doing that is so great to help others? I'm guessing-----probably nothing huh? I 100% agree with Jason C

this video and the song are so true! i have attended church most of my life, but in the last few years i've not went because i felt so ignored. and the few times someone asked me how i was doing, they were just doing it out of courtesy, not because they actually cared. i had a few times i actually told them how i was doing, and it was as if they couldn't get away from me fast enough. i think the point of this video is to show christians that there are real people out there hurting, like me, and that they need to wake up and be Jesus to them right now, not tomorrow or next week or next year, because they might not be here then. maybe one day i will find some christians who really care about me and my life. i care about their lives: is it too much to ask that they care about mine? A/w, great video and song from an awesome band who is touching lives around the world. If you like this song, check out Homesick and I Can Only Imagine, both inspired by the lead singer's loss of his dad (I Can Only Imagine) and his brother in law (Homesick). They are both great songs, and I hope you all can see why they are winning so many awards!

13. gina -
love the music, somewhat confused on the captions not what I expected........

14. Silvestre -
Life Changing message!!! as usual from Casting Crowns songs. Unfortunate that they would use their video in such an untasteful way. Well at least you'll get people to see the video.

15. Yahoo! Music User -
This is so pathetic! The meaning of a beautiful song became so twisted.

16. Yahoo! Music User -
Just because they're a Christian band and don't agree with your views it's okay to make fun of them? And they're talking against the churches who are hypocritical and don't accept those people who've done wrong and messed up.

17. Yahoo! Music User -
Would you guys do this to another type of religion's band? No.

18. Kolfinna Valdis -
Tasteless.

19. Jeffery -
I agree with Bulldog, the main thrust of the song is at the Church. It is sad to see lost and lonely people in the Church. It was first sad to see the lady with the child pass judgement on the visitor, then when she corrected the issue people still walked by her like she was not even there. The Church should be a hospital for the sick, not a shrine for the saved.

20. MARLENE -
I think it is an awesome song. Casting Crowns is trying to let people know just how most of us don't think about the lonely and hurting people that is around us,whether it is inside the church or outside of the church. We should all be more caring. We need to think of where we might be and show love to others. I didn't care for the comments under the videos, either. But every time someone is doing God's work the enemy always tries to make them look bad. Keep pressing on Casting Crowns, you are a blessing!

AP

AP - Police concerns that media-hungry terrorists would attack Michael Jackson's trial as a "soft target" led to a request for federal help, according to FBI files kept on the late pop star. The documents also … More »
