Michael Jackson and Friends: From Pop Stars to Presidents

Posted Fri Jun 26, 2009 4:44am PDT by Amy & Nancy Harrington in GetBack

Michael Jackson was not just a talented musician, he was a true genius. And even though his legendary contribution to the music world has been overshadowed the last few years by accusations, trials, and changes in his physical appearance, he was never at a loss for friends. By all accounts, he was sweet, kind, and had a childlike outlook on life that was contagious. People just wanted to be with him — from pop stars to Presidents. So we take a look at the King of Pop and just SOME of the famous people who clamored to be by his side, from Elizabeth Taylor to Nelson Mandela.

Michael Jackson and Cher, 1983
Cher hosted Michael and his brothers (aka the Jackson Five) on network TV three times in the '70s – in '72 and '74 on "The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour" and in '75 on the "Cher Show," where they sang a medley of their hits "I Want You Back," "I'll Be There," "Never Can Say Goodbye," "The Love You Save," and "Dancing Machine."

Olivia Newton-John and Michael Jackson, 1983
"Grease" co-stars Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta appeared in Jacko's star-studded 1989 music video for "Liberian Girl," along with everyone from Steven Spielberg and Sherman Hemsley to Don King and David Copperfield.

Emmanuel Lewis and Michael Jackson, 1983
You can keep your sparkly gloves and military epaulets; our favorite Michael Jackson accessory of the '80s was, without a doubt, the adorable Emmanuel Lewis.

Michael Jackson and Nancy Reagan, 1984
It's difficult to decide who was more fashionable when Michael Jackson visited with First Lady Nancy Reagan at the White House in 1984.

Michael Jackson with Brooke Shields, 1984
We're not really sure if what Brooke Shields and Michael Jackson were doing was a traditional form of dating, but they did hang out a lot in the early '80s, crossing into each other's worlds at events like the Oscars and American Music Awards.

Sean Lennon and Michael Jackson, 1986
Sean Lennon appeared in Michael Jackson's film "Moonwalker." Look for John's son in the scene where a group of children watch Michael leave a club and get attacked by a crowd of gangsters with machine guns.

Michael Jackson and Princess Diana, 1988
Michael Jackson and Princess Diana first met at his 1988 Wembley Stadium concert. But when the lively royal heard that Jackson planned to drop the groupie-themed song "Dirty Diana" from his set out of respect to her, she asked him to keep it in.

Slash and Michael Jackson, 1990
Michael Jackson and Guns 'N' Roses guitarist Slash were an odd but magical musical pairing on Jacko's 1991 album, "Dangerous," and on the 1995 release "HIStory." Michael Jackson and Macaulay Culkin, 1991

Britney Spears and Michael Jackson, 2002

Michael Jackson will be soarly missed in music. He was a pioneer in video making and could dance the socks off anyone who would try to top him in that arena. I pray that the public will allow his family the privicy to greave and may he rest in peace now.

i honestly believe that Michael Jackson was more than what the media made him out to be...they love to bash his lifestyle when, in all actuality, they loved his music in the 80's. i love Michael Jackson and i think that he should be remembered for the love, time effort and music that he gave but not for the stunts. i think that if the media would have just let him be he wouldnt have done some of what he did. and most of what he did is more than accepted now...like climbin into hyperbaric chambers, there is a clean healing place here in kingsport tn and im wondering was he crazy or was he just a genius merely expressing himself before his time? Ryan White's family would not be the same had it not been for Michael Jackson not caring for the young boy. Still i wonder why he hasnt been given the respect that is due to him...this man is a humanitarian, a friend, a lover, a civil fighter, a son, a brother and ultimately a father, that is what we say about our dear old uncles and daddies and sons and brothers and cousins that hadnt a lick of sense nor did they do anything for the world. He changed the way people view life in an aspect of happiness. He brought together races, nationalities, and genres. there is not a genre in the world that can say that they hadnt been influenced by him or his music. do you realize that he had no childhood and unlike his brothers he was constantly put on blast about everything he ever did. He deserves to live in his legacy and he deserves respect...MICHAEL I LOVE YOU AND THAT WILL NEVER CHANGE R.I.P. MICHAEL JACKSON...8/28/58-6/25/09

I'm so sick of people talking about Michael Jackson. The man is Dead give him and his family respect. This man has done so much for the music industry. If it wasn't for him we wouldn't be listening to the music we listen to today. And NO I’m not talking about just Hip hop and R&B... I’m talking about rock, pop and all other genres. He made way for the music we listen to today. I’ve heard nothing but good things about Farah and Ed. Nothing about the s--t they’ve done. And trust they’ve done some s--t. Michael’s family should go on TV and demand and apology for the way CBS, NBC, ABC and yahoo (to name a few have) bad mouth him.
Did we bad mouth Elvis when he died… NO and he was a big time druggy. What about JFK… NO and he was a big time adulterer. Come on people get of your s--t. Show some respect for the dead… you doing it for Farah and Ed…hmmmm makes you wonder. People if you don’t like what they are doing to Michael..,. WRITE ABOUT IT , TEXT, TALK, SPEAK, COMPLAIN, but stand up don’t let the media dog this Great Icons. (IF WE DON’T STAND FOR SOMETHING WE FALL FOR EVEYTHING). Oh and by the way not only did he lead the way for the music we listen to but he also did the same for dance and fashion. So Thank You Michael for all you have done for the world. How many of you can say that hmmmmmmm…… not to many.

look at the dignateries that have spoken of MJ , it prooves that the man was, is and shall be a true legend in the hearts and minds of a music lover .
we and generations to come will hum his tunes until the break of dawn !
he has gone through hell but has come out successful .
we deeply give our hearts out to the man to was the DNA of pop culture , who today music artists take as the encyclopedia to produce their music .
he was is and will be music's NUMERO UNO !
we love you MJ in this world and beyond !

Yes, Michael was a great singer/dancer...but what about Farrah? She also passed away the same day...she deserves some attention also.
SHE had a great reputation, not a tarnished one.
May BOTH families find peace and comfort in these trying times.

it is so sad for people to think of thier self in time of sorry, and to say such horrible things and to judge. GOD is the only judge i grew up with micheal jacksons' music, but i had a chance to be a child and he didn't so he will always be remembered to be a friend that i grew up with.

This is sad and it is a process to take away a life of creative prophetic wonder from a society that was ungrateful enough to allow him to be taken apart by the hateful and greedy which had to be deeply rooted among the racial shadows. A society that no longer deserved his presence in this shrinking world. I hope he has risen to a culture worthy of his giving.
