Posted Fri Jun 26, 2009 4:44am PDT by Amy & Nancy Harrington in GetBack

Michael Jackson was not just a talented musician, he was a true genius. And even though his legendary contribution to the music world has been overshadowed the last few years by accusations, trials, and changes in his physical appearance, he was never at a loss for friends. By all accounts, he was sweet, kind, and had a childlike outlook on life that was contagious. People just wanted to be with him — from pop stars to Presidents. So we take a look at the King of Pop and just SOME of the famous people who clamored to be by his side, from Elizabeth Taylor to Nelson Mandela.

In 1978 Michael Jackson took Tatum O'Neal on a once-in-a-lifetime date to a bank vault in Beverly Hills to celebrate Jackson's gold records.

Michael Jackson and Cher, 1983
Cher hosted Michael and his brothers (aka the Jackson Five) on network TV three times in the '70s – in '72 and '74 on "The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour" and in '75 on the "Cher Show," where they sang a medley of their hits "I Want You Back," "I'll Be There," "Never Can Say Goodbye," "The Love You Save," and "Dancing Machine."

Olivia Newton-John and Michael Jackson, 1983
"Grease" co-stars Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta appeared in Jacko's star-studded 1989 music video for "Liberian Girl," along with everyone from Steven Spielberg and Sherman Hemsley to Don King and David Copperfield.

Emmanuel Lewis and Michael Jackson, 1983
You can keep your sparkly gloves and military epaulets; our favorite Michael Jackson accessory of the '80s was, without a doubt, the adorable Emmanuel Lewis.

Michael Jackson and Nancy Reagan, 1984
It's difficult to decide who was more fashionable when Michael Jackson visited with First Lady Nancy Reagan at the White House in 1984.

Michael Jackson with Brooke Shields, 1984
We're not really sure if what Brooke Shields and Michael Jackson were doing was a traditional form of dating, but they did hang out a lot in the early '80s, crossing into each other's worlds at events like the Oscars and American Music Awards.

Sean Lennon and Michael Jackson, 1986
Sean Lennon appeared in Michael Jackson's film "Moonwalker." Look for John's son in the scene where a group of children watch Michael leave a club and get attacked by a crowd of gangsters with machine guns.

Michael Jackson and Princess Diana, 1988
Michael Jackson and Princess Diana first met at his 1988 Wembley Stadium concert. But when the lively royal heard that Jackson planned to drop the groupie-themed song "Dirty Diana" from his set out of respect to her, she asked him to keep it in.

Slash and Michael Jackson, 1990
Michael Jackson and Guns 'N' Roses guitarist Slash were an odd but magical musical pairing on Jacko's 1991 album, "Dangerous," and on the 1995 release "HIStory." They made legendary appearances together at the 1992 and 1995 MTV Video Music Awards and on the "Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Special."

Michael Jackson and Macaulay Culkin, 1991
When Macaulay Culkin rose to fame with the "Home Alone" movies, he was befriended by another legendary child star, Michael Jackson. Culkin can be seen cranking the amp up to the "Are you nuts!?!" level in Jackson's 1991 "Black or White" video.

Britney Spears and Michael Jackson, 2002
At the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards, Britney Spears brought Michael Jackson onstage to give him a birthday cake, but Jackson misunderstood and thought he was being presented with the Artist of the Millennium Award. We still think he should have been given the honor.

I doubt that there is anyone out there that has heard one of MJ's hits and not liked it. He was so talented, and I'm so glad he got to share that with the world. Although he was strange because of his childhood, or for any other reason, he brought amazing music to the world. I don't know of anyone that couldn't resist dancing to "Thriller" or "Billie Jean" or "Beat It"

All I can say is watch one of his videos on youtube, like Black or White or Dirty Diana or any of them really and he takes you away from this world and reality for awhile. Then, yes, people like John and the others bring you back. But Michael's gifts are stronger and there for us to go to whenever we need him. I don't worship him, that would be wrong, but I am in awe of his talent and thank him for giving the world so much. And it is I am woman, not lamwoman......

I don't understand. Everyone was all anti-michael Jackson, and now that the guy is dead, everybody is praising him like never before. And just look at what all of the stars are saying: Like Miley Cyrus: "He was my idol." She is definatley full of it. Yes, it is sad I guess. It is really anoyying that they are talking about him everywhere. We know he died, we know that he "paved the way" or whatever, and we know that his family is greiving. Quite frankly, we know all that we NEED to know, and now everyone is being rude and nosey. Leave his family alone and let them reflect and mourn and quit being stupid about it. And for the record Comment 20, the world would be fine without Neyo and Usher rapping. We would find a way to go on. Promise.

Yes he was pretty good I suppose. I have to admit I admired his voice and style much more when he was with the Jackson 5. I never understood all the hype throughout the last 25 years. It's sad he passed away at 50 because in this age that is not considered even remotely old. Hopefully he will not be ridiculed for the next 50 years over his strange behavior. Rest in peace Mike and on to your final reward while you look down and watch the circus ensue over your wealth and debt.

To all of these negative commits wait several years and listen to how bad music is going to get. Then play any one of Michael Jackson hits and you will appreciate the music that he sung. This man made MTV, BET, VH1., and now they have every reality show on their channels, because there are few artist today, and the artist we have most of them shove crap down our ears and call it music. Talking about how much money they have don't concern me at all. Michael never called a female out of her name, never bad mouth any one that I can remember, but people still mention that he had kids sleep with him. My kids crawl in bed with me all the time, I'm not a pedophile, but Michael is. For the last time he was acquitted on all charges. The TV station want to sell ad space so they come up with any story to keep you watching, they don't care if it true or false, they only care that you watch. I really going to miss his music, we all will.

GOD IS GOOD!

THANK YOU DEAR LORD FOR "MICHAEL JACKSON"

THE KING OF POP!

for those people saying that he didn't even want to be seen as a black man they need to learn their facts. Michael Jackson had a skin disorder that took the melanin out of his skin and made him lighter called Vitiligo. And to the people calling him a child molester- how can you be sure of something you didnt see. the only people who can call him a child molester are the people he "allegedly" molested. As for the people who are mourning his loss; i am too because he was the greatest talent that we had in this time and he will be greatly missed.

159. Lets Dance -
He taught me how to Dance and Love! He will be missed!

He will truely be missed. And people should focus on the good he did for the world. He raised millions of dollars for Africa and AIDS. United people of different cultures. At his concerts you saw every race. Not jus black white or asian mostly. U saw a blend of people. He did so much in the world and talked about so much and that truely wat made him change hisself he never had a childhood! TRY BEING FAMOUSE SINCE AGE10 PEOPLE! He would want to be remember as Michael Jackson no JACKO!!Try being labeled by dat name.Im truely sad 4 the things that people have said about him. HE WOULD WANT TO BE REMEMBER FOR HIS MUSIC AND HIS MUSIC IS A SOUNDTRACK TO PEOPLES LIVES.IF U CANT RELATE TO AT LEAST 3 OF HIS SONGS U HAVE A PROBLEM!All he wanted to do is please his fans. And its a shame he had to go out of the country to see the fans that really stuck beside him. I WILL ALWAYS BE A FAN!! R.I..PMJ. u r not alone. Gone to soon
