A Fan Letter To Steve Perry
What the world needs now is Steve Perry.
Steve Perry is the Pavarotti of rock singers and I want him back. He's a one-man vocal wrecking crew, destroying all who come in his path. I don't care how many Arnel Pinedas you put up on stage, they're not fit to shine Steve Perry's mic stand.
It was Steve Perry who closed the deal on "The Sopranos." It's The Perry who's selling you Samsung phones in that AT&T commercial. He's everywhere, he's like the air we breathe, and the Perrinator will be the last voice you hear before you die. In fact, "Wheel in the Sky" is the official song of death. Look it up.
And then there's Perr-man's crowning power ballad achievement, "Don't Stop Believin'." Originally released on Journey's 1981 album "Escape," it peaked at number nine on the Billboard chart but has gone on to become pop culture legend. "American Idol" plays it. World Series baseball teams play it. Kanye West played it for his mom during his '08 Glow in the Dark tour. The song has magical healing properties only known to Chilean shamans and Steve Perry.
"Idol's" Randy Jackson says he heard King Perry sing recently. The pound leader says dawg still has the magic vocal cords. At age 60, Big Steve is running out of time on the classic rock clock. Come on back, Steve Perry. Give us a reason to keep believing in that '80s magic.

good luck Steve
One more question. What music reporter would get off calling Don't Stop Believing a ballad. Ballads are slow. even power ballads. the power ballads have the harder feel to them but they are still slow songs and less rocking. I don't see the song qualifying as a ballad. power or otherwise.
,...i wish he would come back...for one last time.
He's had his day, and he's had a whole lot of years to make his own music and stand on his own two feet. He was terrific with Journey, but Journey has done just fine without him.
