Who Was Your First...Rock and Roll Crush?

Posted Mon Jul 21, 2008 7:01am PDT by Shawn Amos in GetBack

Chrissie Hynde was my first rock crush. I remember her more than I remember my first date. She introduced me to all that was cool and unruly about rock and roll. I confess that I love her still.

Chrissie was all sensuality and swagger. You knew she could kiss you sweet then kick your butt hard. Just the look of her on that first Pretenders album cover was enough to make a run to England and look for her. Even though I knew I'd never have a chance. Chrissie Hynde was the first woman in rock who was really in control. All those '60s geezers had to settle for Janis Joplin. Yeah, she could sing, but she wasn't in control. That was actually her thing — being totally out of control.

But Chrissie was the opposite. She was too good for the '80s. She used words/phrases like "precious," "spanked," and "message of love." She wanted to love you AND she wanted to hurt you because she loved you. My kind of woman.

All these years later, I still keep Chrissie with me. Amidst all the boardroom-created divas and self-conscious fake femme fatales, she remains a breath of fresh rock air. The Pretenders vinyl is long gone, but she continues to sound just as good whispering "Precious" through my ear buds.

Chrissie is was and will always be awsome in my book.

My first rock n roll crush was Steve Perry from Journey. His high pitch voice sinking to melodic low tone drove me insane. He was pretty dang sexy too.

My first rock crush was the drummer/lead singer of night ranger- kelly keagy! I love his hair especially in the music video for their 1984 power ballad "Sister Christian." That is also one of my favorite songs by Night Ranger.

Sadly, I think it might have been Shaun Cassidy (am trying to remember something else), but I was really young. Remember listen to Beatles and Bee Gees, when that was huge, and Supertramp, but crush? Shawn.

It was with Linda Ronstadt, she caught me with her despair singing in "Hurt so bad". Before it I hadn't liked her music, so I didn't know how she looked like, then look for her photographs and wow!! Musically it was with The Beatles.
