Alice Cooper Should Stick to Playing Golf and Not Music

Posted Tue Jul 29, 2008 7:00am PDT by Julee Stover in GetBack
Today marks the debut of Alice Cooper's 25th studio album, Along Came A Spider. Do you care? Should we even consider the 60-year-old author of Alice Cooper: Golf Monster's latest release about an icy serial killer, when we're now used to seeing him in tailored golf attire and commercials for Marriott Hotel's Residence Inn, Staples Office Supplies, and Bridgestone Tires (along with Richard Simmons)?

We know his legacy is rich; he's opened the door for many musicians. And he's much loved.

(Marilyn Manson could use a recharge.)

(Ozzy, despite his media exposure, still commands attention.)

But to reconcile the old persona and shock rock tactics of Along Came A Spider with this stage of his career is painful.

Serial killers. Really? Is that where we have to go now? Let him play golf and do commercials for large corporate entities that pay him well. He's earned it.

The occasional TV appearance, like his '70s stint on The Hollywood Squares, works too.

No more "dark" themes; just put down the mascara wand and lay off the eyeliner. You've made your mark; relax and enjoy the sunset years.

I wonder what genre of music Ms. Stover listened to as a teenager? To those of us who are old enough, we remember the days of real shows. Alice Cooper's Welcome to My Nightmare concert was the first show I attended. He is a showman and performs with finesses. Additionally, he has persevered all of these years which counts for something. As a recovering "alcoholic", golfing is his outlet. As to Alice being sixty, he's still quite the puppy. Following individuals such as Mick Jagger and Paul McCartney, he still has stamina. Alice will continue to play large crowd venues not at all like the bands of today, who probably won't exist ten years hence!

Yah, he is an old girly-man now.

u can't touch the man with those harsh words! he's amazing and I wish him success in whatever it is he wants to do! I'm amazed at how smart the guy seems to be - smarts are a turn on! Rock on Alice!

Maybe we should kill all rock stars at 30 "Logan's Run" style. then they won't dare put out irrelivant material.

Don't you think most of Alice Coopers audience knows he is a fairly normal guy most of the time? Just as we know Robert De Nero is not in the Mob, that "Gangsta" rappers are really middle class kids playing Street Thug, or that Beyonce's hair is a weave? We know its not real, that doesn't mean we can't enjoy the Halloween schtick.

Alice is one of the nicest guys I have ever had the pleasure playing golf with (he could be a pro) and at least his music is real unlike the new crap that is coming out
