Bands Who Are Better Broken Up

Posted Thu Aug 7, 2008 7:00am PDT by Shawn Amos in GetBack
VOTE: What band do you wish would reunite? Here's our pick.

The Police play their farewell show tonight at Madision Square Garden. They have said this is it for them. No more shows. No more albums. Bye bye, Police. Do we believe them? Dudes at that age with that much money don't need to tour.

Still, we've heard it before. The endless procession of bands saying "never again," citing "irreconcilable differences" only to hit the road one (or more) times when the paycheck gets big enough. Seems that no one says goodbye for good (except the Band; The Last Waltz really was the last waltz — except when they got back together a few years later. At least Robbie Robertson kept his word).

Here are five bands who couldn't stay apart, and evidence of why they should.

Van Halen
After burning through every other lead singer imaginable, I guess there was no other choice but to call up Diamond Dave again. Although, with Michael Anthony booted out of the band, it's not quite like the good old days. Here they are experiencing a first class train wreck playing their classic  "Jump."

The Pixies
Unlike most reunions, the Pixies sounded good when they got back together. Great on most nights. And at least they were honest about it. They wanted the money. After years of seeing other bands rip off their sound and get paid better, they deserved it. Plus, how much could David Lovering have made as a magician?

Stone Temple Pilots
The ultimate co-dependant rock family. The DeLeo brothers and their wayward step-brother Scott Weiland pretending like all those drug busts and and Velvet Revolver gigs never happened.

The Who
Does anyone remember that the Who had their first farewell tour in 1982? Twenty-six years and two original members later. . . It's a long goodbye.

Simon & Garfunkel
You gotta love the irony of two guys who can barely look at each other calling their reunion tour "Old Friends."

Cream did a one niter some time ago. They should write a batch of songs and release a new studio album, then tour it all over the world. It won't ever happen but it sounds like a plan to my liking............

i heard that creed actually was getting back together

23. Jennifer -
STP!?! Are you serious? They were AWESOME when I saw them in June. Take them off this list. Now.

The Van Halen clip has been altered sound wise. I have seen them several times and Eddie is too much of a perfectionist to play a guitar that out of tune. Funny how the solos sound ok while the rest sounds like crap. As they say do not believe everything you hear or see media wise. Most of it is biased and unremarkable in my opinion. Van Halen Rocks!

I think Van Halen is great even now. I went to see them in concert a few months ago and had a BLAST. "Train wreck"? I must have missed something... But you know what, to each his/her own. You have your (negative) opinion, and I have mine.

I'm confused. This list is for bands that shouldn't have reunited but you said only positive things about the pixies. Well i don't know wheather to be mad at you or not but i do know that the pixies are really awesome and should reunite, again, so i can see them. Also i whish the replacements would reunite that would be great to go to one of their shows.

You can never recreate the first time, the first rush of discovering a great new band. Trying to relive glory days is painful for everyone. We dug you then, move on to either something fresh and now or get together on your own time and rehash the hits in your basement. p.s. ala Robert Plant. He continues to explore music with the same enthusiasm but never tries to recreate his led zepplin sound. (As for their reunion the fans egged that on, they just gave the people what they thought they wanted.)

Obviously didn't see STP on their reunion tour. It was the best concert I've ever been too and I've been to alot. They were better than they were before they broke up.

34. Connie -
Led Zeppelin's the best band of all time!!!!

We need a list of 5 Bloggers with nothing to say, so they make up dopey lists. Shawn Amos would be number 1.

36. Mustang01 -
Van Halen, the Who and the Police are giants of rock and roll. Ya'll got problems and should learn to appreciate good music.
