Bands Who Are Better Broken Up

VOTE: What band do you wish would reunite? Here's our pick.

The Police play their farewell show tonight at Madision Square Garden. They have said this is it for them. No more shows. No more albums. Bye bye, Police. Do we believe them? Dudes at that age with that much money don't need to tour.

Still, we've heard it before. The endless procession of bands saying "never again," citing "irreconcilable differences" only to hit the road one (or more) times when the paycheck gets big enough. Seems that no one says goodbye for good (except the Band; The Last Waltz really was the last waltz — except when they got back together a few years later. At least Robbie Robertson kept his word).

Here are five bands who couldn't stay apart, and evidence of why they should.

Van Halen
After burning through every other lead singer imaginable, I guess there was no other choice but to call up Diamond Dave again. Although, with Michael Anthony booted out of the band, it's not quite like the good old days. Here they are experiencing a first class train wreck playing their classic  "Jump."

The Pixies
Unlike most reunions, the Pixies sounded good when they got back together. Great on most nights. And at least they were honest about it. They wanted the money. After years of seeing other bands rip off their sound and get paid better, they deserved it. Plus, how much could David Lovering have made as a magician?

Stone Temple Pilots
The ultimate co-dependant rock family. The DeLeo brothers and their wayward step-brother Scott Weiland pretending like all those drug busts and and Velvet Revolver gigs never happened.

The Who
Does anyone remember that the Who had their first farewell tour in 1982? Twenty-six years and two original members later. . . It's a long goodbye.

Simon & Garfunkel
You gotta love the irony of two guys who can barely look at each other calling their reunion tour "Old Friends."

Ps Primus has been back for some time now. Some of you people need to listen to your bibble gum rock/pop and not talk about what you dont have a f@#*ing clue what ur talkin about.

I liked David Lee Roth in 1984. He should have retired after that.

Poor sound quality~ whatever the problem was, this part of the concert was just plain bad..My major problem was watching David Lee Roth ride the giant microphone! How obscene! Am I the only was who was creeped out by this?? I would have thought that after all the years of touring they could have come up with something better than a giant blow up toy!! How embarrassing!

dig up the rotting carcasses of john lennon and george harrison.....let's put the beatles back on the road!!!!Yea,Yea,Yea!!!!!

I have to dispute a couple of bands here. The Police obviously have trouble getting along, but there's little doubt that this friction produces great music, in the studio and live. I saw them tear it up in Cleveland last year. All three are talented musicians, but they are never better than when they are with each other.

As for the Who, it's unfortunate that Keith and John are gone now, but they have worthy replacements in Zack Starkey and Pino Palladino, and their live show was one of the best I've seen...partially because the band was spot on, and partially because their legions of fans know every word to every song and respond accordingly. The problem with the Endless Wire album was that Pete chose to pretty much do everything himself, rather than tapping into the talents of Zack and Pino. That resulted in an album that to me, wasn't much of a resemblance to the Who. What made the Who great back in the day were Pete and Roger's ideas, and Keith and John's interpretation of those ideas. The Who would continually be successful in the live setting if Roger and Pete get along, and if Pete would let the guys do their thing in the studio, there could be more great things there as well.

I'm a big Styx fan and I would get into lots of trouble for this around other fans but I think they are better broken up. Sure JY & Tommy are still going strong but Dennis has been out for almost a decade, John died in 1996 and brother Chuck can only record and make limited appearances due to his health. I dunno - I love 'em but it's not the same as the old days.

The trouble with Van Halen is I don't think the brothers realize that they need each other (Dave, Mike, Eddie and Alex need each other). Dave's got voice and charisma, Eddie needs no introduction, Alex reminds me of Keith Moon and Mike could always put down a wicked bass line. They just need to "kiss and make up" and then they might have another good album in them.

PINK FLOYD!

129. Davic -
PINKFLOYDPINKFLOYDPINKFLOYD! Need I say more?
Also, once they get out Chinese Democracy, GNR should really do a reunion. And I think Rage should do another album .
And yes, Soundgarden should too.

Holy shot... David Lee Roth did a better job on vocals than Eddie did on guitar, and they always talked down about Roth. Now Dave can slam'em back.

No need to dig up John & George, just get Sean or Jullian Lennon and Dhani Harrison all 3 look and sound like their fathers, might still e a awesome concert Call it a reunion or call it "in Memory of" either way should sound fantastic.

Eddie Van Halen should have got down on his Knees and Begged Sammy Hagar not to leave.Diamond Daves voice sounds like a worn out chain saw.

133. Jacob -
Alter Bridge is creed without scott stapp same band members differnt singer and songs but there way better then creed was

134. Lauren -
How can you say that STP shouldn't of gotten back together. Remember they paved the way for the music today, along with Nirvana, Bush, Pearl Jam, and the Chili Peppers. Granted Scott Weiland can't keep himself clean and has been struggling with an addiction for over a decade, but in concert he is an awesome performer and sings his music straight from his soul. He is a legend. I saw STP in 01 and Velver Revolver in 06, and each time I was blown away by the aura that Scott radiates to the crowd. He just needs to get some serious rehab help and a good rehab coach and he could kick the habit and be 100% as good as he is now. STP is legendary.

135. DM -
Is that really Van Halen playing live?! It can't be... They sound like they're playing two different songs at the same time and they don't go together... Really lousy!

136. ELAzalin -
Creed to get back together??? Just listen to Alter Bridge and you have Creed without the lame frontman.

137. Mattie Boi -
What about Soundgarden or Third Eye Blind? They need to come back and save us from the mundane drivel that passes for rock music these days!

138. xander -
i'm just glad zeppelin is back. can't wait for their next non-compilation album! Mothership was good, obviously, but lets hear some new stuff.

139. Aan -
Couldn't agree more with STP. They're great. Scott Weiland's charismatic vocal combine with great song writing by DeLeo brothers are awesome!
For new school band, i wish A DOZEN FURIES could reunite. We need more great quality metalcore.

140. ray -
i would have liked to been at a number of the previously concerts but i agree with most of the comments listed above and i would give my left testicle to see a re-united talking heads tour. just another psycho killer
