Jonas Brothers: Can They Escape the Musical Sibling Curse?

Take the poll.

Unless you've been hiding under a rock, don't know any tweenagers, or are allergic to the sound of high-pitched teenage girl squealing, you're well aware that the Jonas Brothers just dropped their third album, A Little Bit Longer. The squeaky clean trio from Wyckoff, New Jersey — Kevin, Joe, and Nick — are home-schooled Evangelical Christian sons of a pastor who have all pledged to abstain from premarital sex, as symbolized by their purity rings.

Oh, and they also don't drink, do drugs, or smoke. Combine that with their smash albums, videos, upcoming Disney Channel series, a planned 3D concert movie, and starring roles in Camp Rock, and the bushy eye-browed siblings are living the high life of a seemingly unstoppable brotherly force of pop power, without the high part, of course.

We, of course, wish them well, but if history is any indication, that bond can just as easily lead to bloody lips and bruised egos. And so, we offer the Jonas Brothers a few examples from other family acts of how things can go right, or, so, so wrong.

Bad Example: Kings Of Leon
An incredible band also raised by a religious leader — their father used to be a United Pentecostal Church preacher — but no purity rings on the Followill brothers' fingers. Once they broke from the church, the profane won out over the sacred: alter egos that go by names like "Rooster," drugs, alcohol, disorderly conduct, and a groupie train that extends to the horizon.

Good Example: Nelson and Hanson
Sometimes, being wholesome and having great, lustrous hair can work, as it did (for a little while, anyway) for these sets of brothers, who both had big initial success and have continued to rock, without much tension, to much smaller audiences.

Bad Example: Oasis and The Black Crowes
The thing about having your younger brother in the band is that it always guarantees a kind of unspoken telepathy that you've had since childhood. It also ensures that every once in a while you're bound to beat the snot out of each other, maybe even onstage.

Stellar Example: The Osmonds
The diamond standard and, in JonasLand, probably the Beatles of wholesome pop. Just look at them, it's undeniable.

How can anyone say they are not talented? They write their own songs. Nick is basically the leader of the group and he is only 15 years old for God's sake! They're still kids. You can't expect them to be as good as Bon Jovi. Their talent is remarkable to be so young. And I respect them for standing for God.

They are pop music pure and simple. Wont be around at all. Thats what pop music is all about. Anyone that thinks they have any talent either is fooling themselves. They are studio produced pop music. Bands, groups and musician that push the envelope of music and create new styles and sounds with knowledge and creativity will be the only music that last.(Mozart, Miles Davis, The Beatles) As time goes by and their audience grows up they will realize they suck. Playing towards younger crowds only guarantees the death of their music.

I have heard of people comparing them to the Beatles. Let me say this, the Beatles were far deeper than these kids will ever be. They started playing in German bars, broke as can be, and played for the music not fame. These "boys" are on Disney's leash....lol
They will make $$$ though.....

In all honesty, I absoltly love the Jonas Brothers(Kevins my fave). The thing that will save them is that as their fans grow, there growing too. Nick is 15, turning 16 next month. Hes my age, and Joe just turned 19, and Kevin will be 21 in 3 months. Thats gonna make them last like forever. Also if they had true fans, like so many of the dedicated fans out there will love them forever. I mean, I'm not afraid to say I still like the backstreet boys and listen to them every so often. There first few albums as well as the Never Gone album. So I think that they definatly will last a very long time because of the fact they are growing with there fans and that they have majorly dedicated fans.

I love Jonas Brothers.

im always hesitant to critisize the jonas brothers, because the beatles had the same image early in their career as the jonas brothers do now. only the beatles songs then were amazing, and im not sure if the jonas brothers songs have that brilliance

but if their music evolves then that would be really interesting to see (or hear, i guess)

don't forget the Gibbs-aka the Bee Gees. they had a long career

Well, if you HATE THE JONAS BROTHERS, why would you spend your time just to post comments that you don't like them and they SUCK.You would just ignore it. I LOVE THE JONAS BOTHERS, but it doesn't mean that i hate MCR,i'm a huge fan of them too. they're really cool. And also the click5, fob, silvestrein, rja etc.. :))
all of them..they're cool and awesome and great and everything..but it doesn't mean we should all be exagerating b'coc of them....

i hope they have a great career ahead of them. I wish them all the luck

its funny how the bad examples are the bigger name acts on the list, besides the kings of leon, but i dont know who that is. But cmon, Oasis the Black Crowes, two very large bands. I am in NO WAY saying do drugs, i just found it ironic. kinda like stress-relief candles burning down a house (family guy rules)

I have heard of them being compared to the Beatles. Let me say this, the Beatles were far deeper than these chumps will ever be. They started broke, playing in german bars for the music not the fame. These "boys" are on Disney's leash. They will never have the courage to speak out against taboo issues like the fab four. Rollingstone soldout long ago. These dorks on the cover proves it for good. They will make a ton of $$$ though. Just not mine....lol
