Jonas Brothers: Can They Escape the Musical Sibling Curse?

Take the poll.

Unless you've been hiding under a rock, don't know any tweenagers, or are allergic to the sound of high-pitched teenage girl squealing, you're well aware that the Jonas Brothers just dropped their third album, A Little Bit Longer. The squeaky clean trio from Wyckoff, New Jersey — Kevin, Joe, and Nick — are home-schooled Evangelical Christian sons of a pastor who have all pledged to abstain from premarital sex, as symbolized by their purity rings.

Oh, and they also don't drink, do drugs, or smoke. Combine that with their smash albums, videos, upcoming Disney Channel series, a planned 3D concert movie, and starring roles in Camp Rock, and the bushy eye-browed siblings are living the high life of a seemingly unstoppable brotherly force of pop power, without the high part, of course.

We, of course, wish them well, but if history is any indication, that bond can just as easily lead to bloody lips and bruised egos. And so, we offer the Jonas Brothers a few examples from other family acts of how things can go right, or, so, so wrong.

Bad Example: Kings Of Leon
An incredible band also raised by a religious leader — their father used to be a United Pentecostal Church preacher — but no purity rings on the Followill brothers' fingers. Once they broke from the church, the profane won out over the sacred: alter egos that go by names like "Rooster," drugs, alcohol, disorderly conduct, and a groupie train that extends to the horizon.

Good Example: Nelson and Hanson
Sometimes, being wholesome and having great, lustrous hair can work, as it did (for a little while, anyway) for these sets of brothers, who both had big initial success and have continued to rock, without much tension, to much smaller audiences.

Bad Example: Oasis and The Black Crowes
The thing about having your younger brother in the band is that it always guarantees a kind of unspoken telepathy that you've had since childhood. It also ensures that every once in a while you're bound to beat the snot out of each other, maybe even onstage.

Stellar Example: The Osmonds
The diamond standard and, in JonasLand, probably the Beatles of wholesome pop. Just look at them, it's undeniable.

I am a fan of JB but what i dont get is that Has any one of these reviewers gone to there shows?? Most of the audience is 13+ unlike with most disney starlets where they lose their fanbase at 12!! Hello and if they were just teenybop trash then the wouldn't be nominated for best Vid of the Year for burnin' up at the VMAs. On MTV which has a audience of 16yr+. just Saying!

how is it the J5 weren't mentioned here at all. i mean talk about the best brother group ever.

This is proof that music has sunk to a new low. The Jonas Brothers suck. The youngest one sounds like he can't breathe when he sings, the "attractive" one dances around with a tambourine in his hand (?!) while the oldest and far less attractive stands there and...does nothing significant.

wat the hell!!!

the reason all the sibling bands dont make it is because they hold their music dear and thats the number one thing. So they will fight for what they feel is right. thats why they break up or collide heads. Bands like Jonas brothers and hanson work well cuz its only about the money. hell dress me up in a clown suit for 3 years if I could rake in 3 million dollars

The Jonas Brothers are great I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE them. And I bet that they're going to be great for a long time

I really don't think they will crash and burn like some people are saying they will, they have talent! They write their own songs (they have acctually written some for other celbrities), play their own instruments, and can acctually sing! I think after a while they will just stop and be done with it. I don't think they will have any issues with each other, they get along pretty well! They share a tour bus and haven't killed each other yet, that has to be a good sign!
I know a lot of people hate them, but I really enjoy their music, and no I am not an obsessed tween :) I am not even a tween! I don't have posters haning all over my room, I don't have these dreams of marrying them, I haven't even been to one of their concerts yet! I just think they are talented and like that they are acctually good people. I also LOVE the fact that they are christians, because of that there is less of a chance that I will ever feel uncomfortable listening to their music with my little brother who loves them. I think you will be seeing Kevin, Joe and Nick for a while :)

Well just because some other boy bands have failed horriblely, doesnt mean that the Jonas Brothers will. They're great examples for everyone in this world. Now, its a shocking thing to hear someone is a virgin and having a celebery being a virgin is more surprising. I agree they'll eventually get old but i doubt that they will end badly like other boy bands, they'll go pretty far

hope they die in a car crash

The Jonas Brothers are the best and anyone that does not agree well i don't know why you would not but if they follow Hanson then they will do amazing just like they are!!!!!

JB fans are psycho paranoid dewey-eyed in LUV, so ignore their raving (much less the bad grammar). Been their, you can see it here and on person and all over the fan boards of "competing" bands. Stay in school, girls. Spend some of that merch money on an English tutor btw.

The Jonas Brothers, are a VERY typical boy band. Actually they are even more so with their audience, which yes does consist of young girls mostly. They don't "rock". They are most definitely pop. I like that they are having fun, and enjoying life. I'm not hating, I'm keeping it real. Not to mention they probably won't be "squeaky-clean" forever, not all three of them. People don't want to hear reality. I wish them success, but hope they improve their music and maybe move past their pop-ness.

The Jonas Brohters are awesome and they will never start a fight they just mess around like any other brothers would do. I know that nothing can go wrong of course something bad. I love the Jonas Brothers are awesome and I believe nothing can go wrong cuz they love to rock out with each other and everything.
