Ever Get The Feeling You've Been Cheated? I Want My Money Back From These Concerts

Posted Wed Aug 27, 2008 1:31pm PDT by Shawn Amos in GetBack

After the Sex Pistols’ last gig in San Francisco, Johnny Rotten famously chided his audience, "Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?" In a series of notorious bad gigs, the Pistols delivered one of their worst.

It's an unfortunate rock tradition: great bands giving really bad concerts. Neil Diamond is the latest, having decided to refund money to fans who attended his show in Columbus, Ohio. Seems ol' Neil had laryngitis and thought he'd sing his way through a concert anyway. Of course. Why would a singer need a voice to sing? But I gotta give him props for having the integrity to give fans their money back. Most artists take the money and run.

I think all concerts should have a money-back guarantee. Given that the average ticket price is over 60 bucks these days, we should have some protection. I'm starting with these concerts — I want my money back for these live flops. They wasted my money and my time. Both are in short supply.

U2 - PopMart Tour

If you read my U2 post, you know I’m a fan. However, four Irish dudes stuck inside a giant lemon dressed up like the Village People is not my idea of a good time. I know, it was supposed to be a "rock spectacular" full of smart irony but still... give me U2 on a stage without a lemon or McDonalds arches. Refund, please!

VAN HALEN - Greensboro, 2007

Gimme my money back — and someone fire the soundman! David, Eddie, and the boys launched into "Jump," but the backing keyboard track was playing in the one key, while Eddie was playing in another. The whole thing is a train wreck beyond compare. Note to bands: it's okay to just stop the song, fix the problem, and start over.

BOB DYLAN - The "Never-Ending Tour"

Bob's "never-ending tour" needs to end. He's taken to playing nearly incomprehensible versions of his songs while perched behind an electric piano wearing a cowboy hat. He's like some folkie Yosemite Sam piano-bar singer impersonating Bob Dylan.

MADONNA - Any and Every Concert

I know I only have myself to blame but I want my money back for every Madonna tour. When will she learn that multiple costume changes, an overly exercised body, a chorus line of dancers, and some platitudes about peace and love does not make up for soul. Soul is at the center of a concert. Anything else is just a Vegas show.

THE POLICE - 2008 Reunion Tour

What was great about the Police in the '80s? They were three dudes playing tight rock tunes. Reunited in 2008, Sting insisted on turning them into some prog-rock version of the Police with rambling excursions.

*BAD CONCERT HALL OF FAME*
I wasn't at these concerts but they deserve a place in bad rock concert history.

GUNS 'N ROSES - Riverport Amphitheatre, 1991

It's the stuff of rock legend. Axl Rose jumps off stage, attacks a fan recording the show, and is pulled off him by securtity guards. He gets back on stage and says, "Well, thanks to the lame-ass security, I'm going home" then storms off the stage. A riot ensued, injuring dozens. I wasn't there, but if I were, I would want my money back.

ROLLING STONES - Altamont, 1969

Note to self: never hire the Hells Angels for concert security.

"FINAL" CONCERTS

And finally, any band that makes some huge deal about their "final" tour, asks their fans to shell out hundreds of dollars for the privilege, then reunites soon after should give everyone their money back. If it's the last time, make it the last time.

May all your concerts be worth the money you shell out. I raise my lighter to you.

Megadeth in 1988 in Oakland, Dave Mustaine was hammered.

worst concert: amy winehouse... most entertaining concert: amy winehouse.

23. Freddy Fox -
How about the GNR/Metallica show when Hetfield got burned and then Axl bailed on their show due to "throat issues". A full-on riot ensued after that. Or how about any concert where someone dies. That should automatically make for a terrible concert.

ANY Steve Winwood concert. B-O-R-I-N-G! Although I understand that his recent performance with Tom Petty was pretty good.

25. Xairn -
I don't know if this would count but Chubby Checker opening the Indy 500 this year was soooooo embarrassing!! lol

You just can't knock Madonna or else her psycho brainwashed fans will be out to get you. People....Madonna sucks!!! Get over it and stop defending her

I saw Tori Amos in concert back in the 1990's when she was a bigger name. All she did was purr her words into the mic while playing piano and trying to look sexy and get it on with her piano bench. This lasted for 2 hours. She rarely spoke to the audience. The most disappointing show I've ever seen. I couldn't stand her music after that.

Mariah Carey wasn't all that great either. Too many costume changes, as well as showing up late. Not worth the very high price of tickets.

went to Merle Haggard this spring At wendover nev. He should pay to have people entertain him. I was amazed he even remebered the lyrics

Wow!!!!! You should be working at McDonald's, although I am sure you wouldn't even have the skills to do that job. I am not even able to fathom how you used U2 and the village people in the same sentence, you say you are a fan but you are not even close to a fan, I am one of the biggest U2 fans on the planet and I loved the Popmart tour, When the lemon opened up and they walked down out of it I almost jumped out of the stadium it was so cool! The minute I saw U2 on your retarded list I stopped reading that instant. You should be banned from writing another single moronic statement on any website and shuttled off to Mars where you can be the guinea pig to search for other plant life forms that have your same intelligence, which I am guessing is even insulting to plants to say you may be as smart as them. And you should definitely be banned from EVER going to U2 concert again.

The Creed concert in Chicago a few years back had to be one of the worst concerts ever. Scott Staff the lead singer forgot his own lyrics while laying on his back on stage, then passed out and had to be helped off of the stage by crew. Some concertgoers even sued Creed for refunds but lost because the show was called an "unique" experience.

I saw The Police a couple of months ago and thought it was a great show. Also was at the GNR Riverport Ampitheater riot in St. Louis - would have preferred to see the whole concert, but being at a riot made for some good stories.

Concerts suck anyway. People step all over your shoes, spilling crap on you, overly loud music that drowns out half of the vocals, rude security...I'll just have fun at a party or listen to my Mp3's anyday. Concerts suck, always have, always will.

Who wants 2 c a 50 year old woman dancing around on stage grabbing herself? The majority of her concerts she spends laying on stage rubbing all over herself.Maybe she should make a porno or keep some things behind closed doors!Sure she looks great 4 her age but there's a limit. One of the greatest concerts of all time was Ozzy,Type o Negative and Sepaltura.Kiss also rocked when they came back and done the full make-up tour.

To Yaz:

The reason I thought Randy Castillo sucked was because he didn't really seem to fit in with the other three. I'm not arguing that he wasn't good, given the right band. Just not with the Crue. Tommy Lee was/is a good fit and will always be a great heavy metal drummer.

Roxy Music at the Bismark theater{ Chicago} in 1982. The played 45 min without an encore. I had bought the tkts 6 months in advance was looking forward to seeing these guys. It was their 1st tour in 5 yrs. 45min. I want my money back.

Tom Petty gives a great show. But then again, everything is great when you're stoned.
