Ever Get The Feeling You've Been Cheated? I Want My Money Back From These Concerts

Posted Wed Aug 27, 2008 1:31pm PDT by Shawn Amos in GetBack

After the Sex Pistols’ last gig in San Francisco, Johnny Rotten famously chided his audience, "Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?" In a series of notorious bad gigs, the Pistols delivered one of their worst.

It's an unfortunate rock tradition: great bands giving really bad concerts. Neil Diamond is the latest, having decided to refund money to fans who attended his show in Columbus, Ohio. Seems ol' Neil had laryngitis and thought he'd sing his way through a concert anyway. Of course. Why would a singer need a voice to sing? But I gotta give him props for having the integrity to give fans their money back. Most artists take the money and run.

I think all concerts should have a money-back guarantee. Given that the average ticket price is over 60 bucks these days, we should have some protection. I'm starting with these concerts — I want my money back for these live flops. They wasted my money and my time. Both are in short supply.

U2 - PopMart Tour

If you read my U2 post, you know I’m a fan. However, four Irish dudes stuck inside a giant lemon dressed up like the Village People is not my idea of a good time. I know, it was supposed to be a "rock spectacular" full of smart irony but still... give me U2 on a stage without a lemon or McDonalds arches. Refund, please!

VAN HALEN - Greensboro, 2007

Gimme my money back — and someone fire the soundman! David, Eddie, and the boys launched into "Jump," but the backing keyboard track was playing in the one key, while Eddie was playing in another. The whole thing is a train wreck beyond compare. Note to bands: it's okay to just stop the song, fix the problem, and start over.

BOB DYLAN - The "Never-Ending Tour"

Bob's "never-ending tour" needs to end. He's taken to playing nearly incomprehensible versions of his songs while perched behind an electric piano wearing a cowboy hat. He's like some folkie Yosemite Sam piano-bar singer impersonating Bob Dylan.

MADONNA - Any and Every Concert

I know I only have myself to blame but I want my money back for every Madonna tour. When will she learn that multiple costume changes, an overly exercised body, a chorus line of dancers, and some platitudes about peace and love does not make up for soul. Soul is at the center of a concert. Anything else is just a Vegas show.

THE POLICE - 2008 Reunion Tour

What was great about the Police in the '80s? They were three dudes playing tight rock tunes. Reunited in 2008, Sting insisted on turning them into some prog-rock version of the Police with rambling excursions.

*BAD CONCERT HALL OF FAME*
I wasn't at these concerts but they deserve a place in bad rock concert history.

GUNS 'N ROSES - Riverport Amphitheatre, 1991

It's the stuff of rock legend. Axl Rose jumps off stage, attacks a fan recording the show, and is pulled off him by securtity guards. He gets back on stage and says, "Well, thanks to the lame-ass security, I'm going home" then storms off the stage. A riot ensued, injuring dozens. I wasn't there, but if I were, I would want my money back.

ROLLING STONES - Altamont, 1969

Note to self: never hire the Hells Angels for concert security.

"FINAL" CONCERTS

And finally, any band that makes some huge deal about their "final" tour, asks their fans to shell out hundreds of dollars for the privilege, then reunites soon after should give everyone their money back. If it's the last time, make it the last time.

May all your concerts be worth the money you shell out. I raise my lighter to you.

To Matthew G--You have got to be kidding in saying that Jennifer LIED about going to see Lynyrd Skynyrd. They are still OUT THERE and performing. I think the gent who sings now is Johnny Van Zant, and I think he's the younger brother of the Ronnie Van Zant fellow who died in the crash. That crash back in the 70s claimed three of the band/crew; others on the plane were severely injured. Not sure if there's an original member still with them, but they DO still perform and have been successful as a touring act in this day & age.

Oh, wait, you guys. I've got one worse than any you've mentioned...Creedence Clearwater Revisited! Only two original members and the guy they pretending he could sing like John Fogherty sounded like the guy in the chicken feathers singing "I am your Bro-ther, your best friend for-ever.." as he was laughed out of the Idols audition! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, etc!

Neil Diamond is a no talent hack! What's his biggest hit? Copa Cabana? Total crap!! He's a bald headed Dumbo freak that is only liked by people that are a few fries shy of a happy meal. I wouldn't want just a reinburstment for my ticket, I would need to be paid for just coming in the firt place.

add donna summer to the list, performance at
the Hollywood Bowl on August 23rd, left a lot to be desired.

5 years ago I bought tickets for Dylan when he was touring ball parks with Willie Nelson. My friend warned me that Dylan had been unintelligible for 10 years (and he was). I should have listened to my friend. 3 years ago my son was getting ready to buy tickets to Dylan and I told him that Dylan had been unintelligible for 12 years. He bought the tickets anyway but said after the show that he should have listened to his mother.

I SAW BOB DYLAN A FEW WEEKS BACK AND HES THE MAN. THE ROLLING STONES HAS ALWAYS SUCKED, GUN N ROSES ARNT GOOD. BUT BOB DYLAN IS THE INVENTER OF MUSIC. HES THE MAN, AND OBV HES HORRIABLE AT SINGING BUT ITS NOT ABOUT THAT IS ABOUT WHAT HES SAYING, THE WORDS, THE IMPACT ON THE WORLD, GET SOME COMMON SENSE PEOPLE

I don't know why you would be surprised at lackluster U2 and Bob Dylan shows. These guys sold their souls to Ipod months ago. Why would sellouts care about the type of show they put on when all they probably care about is how much they made off merchandise sales?

Wow - for once a reviewer sees Madonna for what she is. Madonna is a two dollar slutbucket who never had a decent song in twenty five years. Now she's charging $350 per ticket. The fact that her fans willingly shell out that kind of jack only proves how stupid they are.

Ya know what hookers and Sting have in common?
They both suck when the police aren't around.

hey Shawn, Rotten wasn't talking to the crowd. As he stated he was talking to the Pistols. Another rock myth.

You have apparently never seen the Black Crowes in concert.

I've learned that smaller concert venues are always better...more intimate and inspires (forces?) the band/singer to be at their best. Aside from No Doubt which played at our university's outdoor theater (Return to Saturn tour - before the music started getting boring) the BEST concert I've been to was Uncle Willy K at a local high school's fund raiser. He's amazing...and I'm not even a big fan of his music. He has a big voice, unbelievable versatility and a huge personality to boot. One of the best surprises I've ever had.

Goodness people? Its only Rock n Roll...

Worst concert by a great band was definitely Foreigner at Universal Studios Orlando in 2000. Lou Graham looked like Marlon Brando and went back stage to suck oxygen from a tank every 5 minutes. To make matters worse, he was an incredible jerk instead of grateful that fans still wanted to see them after 20 years.

OZZY at Mesker Park Amphatheater. Matlica opening.. Matlica hand to cancel because one of there members hurt his self backstage skateboarding.. then OZZY staggers out on stage and bables through a few songs then passes out... Wast of Cash wast of a sick day at work

I've never been to a Madonna concert but i've seen them!! and i LOVE her costume changes and all her dancers!! she doesn't just get off stage and nothing happens, the concert is nonstop!! something is happening the whole time!! dances and remixes of songs... its just exciting!! i want to go so bad!! plus she is like... the richest female singer ever, so i think ppl would have to disagree!!

Bob Dylan to me has always sounded like he's sitting on the john straining to take a poo. He's a great song writer, but a terrible singer.

159. stacy -
Dylan is a stud!

AP

AP - Jamaican reggae star Buju Banton will fight the drug charge against him in Tampa instead of Miami. Banton, whose real name is Mark Anthony Myrie, waived his bail hearing Wednesday in Miami federal court. His case i… More »
