Ever Get The Feeling You've Been Cheated? I Want My Money Back From These Concerts

Posted Wed Aug 27, 2008 1:31pm PDT by Shawn Amos in GetBack

After the Sex Pistols’ last gig in San Francisco, Johnny Rotten famously chided his audience, "Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?" In a series of notorious bad gigs, the Pistols delivered one of their worst.

It's an unfortunate rock tradition: great bands giving really bad concerts. Neil Diamond is the latest, having decided to refund money to fans who attended his show in Columbus, Ohio. Seems ol' Neil had laryngitis and thought he'd sing his way through a concert anyway. Of course. Why would a singer need a voice to sing? But I gotta give him props for having the integrity to give fans their money back. Most artists take the money and run.

I think all concerts should have a money-back guarantee. Given that the average ticket price is over 60 bucks these days, we should have some protection. I'm starting with these concerts — I want my money back for these live flops. They wasted my money and my time. Both are in short supply.

U2 - PopMart Tour

If you read my U2 post, you know I’m a fan. However, four Irish dudes stuck inside a giant lemon dressed up like the Village People is not my idea of a good time. I know, it was supposed to be a "rock spectacular" full of smart irony but still... give me U2 on a stage without a lemon or McDonalds arches. Refund, please!

VAN HALEN - Greensboro, 2007

Gimme my money back — and someone fire the soundman! David, Eddie, and the boys launched into "Jump," but the backing keyboard track was playing in the one key, while Eddie was playing in another. The whole thing is a train wreck beyond compare. Note to bands: it's okay to just stop the song, fix the problem, and start over.

BOB DYLAN - The "Never-Ending Tour"

Bob's "never-ending tour" needs to end. He's taken to playing nearly incomprehensible versions of his songs while perched behind an electric piano wearing a cowboy hat. He's like some folkie Yosemite Sam piano-bar singer impersonating Bob Dylan.

MADONNA - Any and Every Concert

I know I only have myself to blame but I want my money back for every Madonna tour. When will she learn that multiple costume changes, an overly exercised body, a chorus line of dancers, and some platitudes about peace and love does not make up for soul. Soul is at the center of a concert. Anything else is just a Vegas show.

THE POLICE - 2008 Reunion Tour

What was great about the Police in the '80s? They were three dudes playing tight rock tunes. Reunited in 2008, Sting insisted on turning them into some prog-rock version of the Police with rambling excursions.

*BAD CONCERT HALL OF FAME*
I wasn't at these concerts but they deserve a place in bad rock concert history.

GUNS 'N ROSES - Riverport Amphitheatre, 1991

It's the stuff of rock legend. Axl Rose jumps off stage, attacks a fan recording the show, and is pulled off him by securtity guards. He gets back on stage and says, "Well, thanks to the lame-ass security, I'm going home" then storms off the stage. A riot ensued, injuring dozens. I wasn't there, but if I were, I would want my money back.

ROLLING STONES - Altamont, 1969

Note to self: never hire the Hells Angels for concert security.

"FINAL" CONCERTS

And finally, any band that makes some huge deal about their "final" tour, asks their fans to shell out hundreds of dollars for the privilege, then reunites soon after should give everyone their money back. If it's the last time, make it the last time.

May all your concerts be worth the money you shell out. I raise my lighter to you.

Ive seen u2 in concert and they're amazing

If you don't like something that happens at a concert tell the place you purchased the ticket at and ask for a refund. If that fails then write a letter to the agent naming the
event day and time and be specific about the problem.Don't just say I didn't like it!
Last but not least if you can't get satisfaction then don't buy any tickets through that outlet or future concerts by the
same artist!

That "writer" doesnt know what he's talking about with the Madonna shows! She has reinvented the concert as a show, a performance, as art. And that video posted is an amazing version of "Erotica" with an incredible dance number. I fail to see what he's talking about. Especially when the video he posts goes against everything he is saying. Hmm

mrmojorisin are you a Neil Diamond fan or what? I've seen him 5 times & it was always fantastic. His albums still go platinum and he can still sell out consecutive shows at big venues when other big names do only one. Way to go Neil!

Concerts are way over priced, artists et al, are asking way too much money from their fans. Start boycotting today, no more shows and then we don't have to sit and read this yahoo crap!

HOW ABOUT THE EAGLES ENDLESS REUNION TOURS AND HOPEFULLY THE WHO WON'T TOUR THEY SOUND OLD AND WORN OUT

I agree with the earlier post regarding Madonna, in that you really need to attend "all" of her shows before casting judgement and basically saying to avoid anything by her. As for Van Halen, wow what an embarrassing clip that is for them, don't blame you for contemplating a refund on that one. Lastly, as for the Police, I definitely disagree with you...I saw them in Kansas City earlier this year and that was the best concert my brother and I ever saw; those guys were as tight as could be and certainly made me appreciate their talents even more; there were no "rambling excursions", as you put it...a few of the tunes differed slightly from the original recordings, but there's nothing wrong with that, so long as it's not like that on *every* song; definitely worth the money we paid.

173. Rolando -
I have a crappy concert moment. Paid to see Cold to see them play their famous hit song "Stupid Girl" only to get a 30 second opening portion of the song leading to another. Talk about sucking!

174. David -
POP not the best U2 album, the band even agrees with that. Wanting your money back because you didn't like the concert? They are the biggest band in the world, they put on one of the biggest shows in the world and you want your money back, when you got your moneys worth?

YAHOO fire this guy and get a decent critic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The people who pay to see a Madonna concert are, more than likely, the same people that will spend a ridiculous amount of money for the watered down drinks and exorbitant covercharge at the latest 'IN' club. Not so much about talent, but who will see you there.
P.S. Does anyone remember grammar?

Any concert that you go to and can fall asleep in the middle of is definetly one you can put on the list of "Refund Please!" Trust me, I've had a couple of those.

177. Ace -
Bob Dylan - never did understand why anybody every paid money to hear him mumble off key.
Not only now but 40 years ago - he has always stunk.

I decided to name a few of the best, Rarely have i been to a concert where i felt i wanted a refund. #1 THE EAGLES...will always go see them if they are in my state. Words can't describe how awesome they are. #2. REO..they are better now than ever before. If you get the chance to see them and you like classic rock, they are a must see. #3. Eric Clapton..blues king. Awesome! One, if not the best guitar player on the planet. 4. Paul McCartney. A mix of Beatles, Wings and solo music along with a wonderous sense of humor makes his shows always perfect. He loves to talk to the crowd and is very funny. Musically, it is worth every penny and his band is truly awesome. One negative to report, I saw Van Halen recently. Eddie is such a great guitarist, his bro is great on drums and Wolfgang is learning and fits in ok on bass. David Lee Roth, good but not always able to hear the lyrics clearly. I thought the band would have been better had they turned the sound down ( and i love it loud), it was hard to hear the lyrics as i said. Saw the Who and Queen in the past few years, both well worth the money. Of all these, the Eagles are at the top of my list of must see. 3 hours of all Eagles, 5 part harmony, musically perfect. They joke about final tours naming them by #, and comically when they played a new song they told everyone before hand it's a new one so go get a beer..lol. All the shows i have been to are well organized, no sloppy drunks falling all over and very peaceful. Just thought i'd add some optimism to the posts since there are still some fabulous bands who come around now and then, well worth the money to see, even to travel a few hours to get there!

Hey Joel,I did do that......and they didn't care.I even wrote to Ace(with NO REPLY).Trust me,Ace and the place I saw him have seen the last of my hard earned dollars!!!!!

180. Michael -
I guess I've been pretty lucky that most of the concerts I've seen have been pretty good, but Stevie Nicks in Raleigh a few years back was probably the worst. She lacked passion, and the concert was about an hour shorter than expected.
