Songs for Seduction
On the flipside of heartache is sweet, sweet love. I'm not talking about 1950s malt shop love. I'm talking about something closer to lust. I'm actually saying love, but meaning something else. You know what I mean? Some of us will say anything to get a little seduction.
So to all of you who are lucky enough to be in love, here are some songs you must have playing if you want to get lucky this Valentine's night. Or any night for that matter. Let me know how it goes.
Check out the full seduction gallery here.
MARVIN GAYE "Let's Get It On" & "Sexual Healing"
Marvin is the gold standard for seduction. He once famously said life is a battle between God and sex. Listening to these songs, it's clear who wins the battle.
ROD STEWART "Tonight's the Night (Gonna Be Alright)"
Rod the Mod is one of the more famous rock seducers around. He was dating Swedish actress Britt Ekland when he wrote and recorded this '76 single. Janet Jackson took it to another level of seduction when she implied a threesome in her 1997 cover version.
BARRY WHITE "Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe"
The late, great Barry White was the walrus of love. His use of lush strings and bass voice was a double romantic threat. It's hard to believe he was the same dude who began his career writing songs for Sid & Marty Krofft's "The Banana Splits."
BOB DYLAN "Lay Lady Lay"
When you think of seduction, Bob Dylan is not the first name that comes to mind. However, this 1969 single is a surprisingly sultry. Dylan offered the tune to the Everly Brothers, but they passed. Seems they confused the "lay across my big brass bed" lyric with "lay across my big breasts, babe."
D'ANGELO "Untitled (How Does It Feel)"
On this single from his second album, D'Angelo takes the mantle from Marvin Gaye, Al Green, and every other sex-starved soul artist of the past 30 years. The video of him standing naked before the camera didn't hurt him with the ladies either.
DAVE MATTHEWS BAND "Crash Into Me"
"Hike up your skirt a little more/And show your world to me." Pretty seductive stuff. Matthews has said that he wrote this song as his worship of women. Use that line before you play the song.
MAZZY STAR "Fade Into You"
It's dreamy, it's drony, it's a bit rambling, but that's the point. "Fade Into You" is one big seductive stream-of-consciousness love letter. At least to me. I'm sure everyone has their own story.
TEDDY PENDERGRASS "Turn Off the Lights"
Like many soul singers, Pendergrass got his start in the church but soon headed for the bedroom with a string of sultry hits like "Close the Door," "The More I Get the More I Want," and "Love T.K.O" — each one more seductive than the last.
BEE GEES "How Deep Is Your Love"
Arguably the best thing to come from the whole "Saturday Night Fever" phenomenon, this song was originally intended for chanteuse Yvonne Elliman, but she passed. No worries: the Gibb brothers sound more femme than any femme. As a result, this track works no matter who's doing the seducing.
THE BEATLES "I Want You"
OK, it's a little redundant lyrically but, man, it's a sexy tune. And who wouldn't love someone saying, "I want you" over and over again? Unless it's some creep you just met at a bar. Or an ex who won't let go. Or... on second thought, it is kind of obsessive.
AL GREEN "I'm Still in Love With You"
Before he became a minister and left his bedroom tales behind, Al Green gave us some of the best seduction songs for our mix tapes. This one is from 1972 album of the same title. The way he goes from a soft bedroom voice to a wail can make the coldest of hearts melt.

Ah, Amos, I'll be sure how "lucky" I get when I find out my significan other is pregnant.
I am referring to your blog about misunderstood lyrics, but there are too many comments on that one already to even bother with - sorry for going off-subject on you here.
