30 Rock Finale: Kidney Wow!

Posted Fri May 15, 2009 11:02am PDT by Lyndsey Parker in As Heard On...

Last night, 30 Rock's finale quite literally rocked, when musicians from all walks of life--the Beastie Boys, Sheryl Crow, Elvis Costello, Mary J. Blige, Maroon 5's Adam Levine, Norah Jones, Clay Aiken, Moby, Cyndi Lauper, Steve Earle, Michael McDonald, Talib Kweli, Rhett Miller, Robert Randolph, and Rachael Yamagata among them--harnessed their star power to perform at a "We Are The World"-style "Kidney Now!" benefit for Jack's dad.

This was truly some must-see TV:

There hasn't been as funny a Band Aid/Live Aid-style sendup on the small screen since the citizens of Springfield joined forces for "Sending Our Love Down The Well" on The Simpsons...

...or since the cast of In Living Color raised money for "Career Aid":

...or since a crack team of celebrity impersonators came together on this Japanese variety show...

...or since Britpop band Pulp hired a cast of impostors for this little-seen work of Band-Aid-spoofing genius...

However, "Kidney Now!" might be the finest "We Are The World" parody yet. I laughed so hard, my internal organs hurt!

SNL did a Band Aid parody back in the early nineties that was pretty good too.

2. Angelica -
They totally left out the parody done on Married with Children! Lame!

It's a shame no one from Spinal Tap showed up.

4. Stevie Ray -
They did this in the Dickie Roberts movie with David Spade and he used all the former child acting stars he could find {that were not in rehab}. I loved that. It was hilarious.

What's an even worse shame is that hulu.com doesn't stream in Canada. Someone needs to get those clips up on YouTube!

I like WE ARE THE WORLD better. The CAREER-AID spoof was nothing to wirte home about, the 30 ROCK spoof had some moments, the Japanese version of WE ARE THE WORLD came close, and PULP's group video was just OK.

Pinetop Perkins' 80-year career still going

AP
Fri Nov 27, 2009 4:03am PST

AP - Noisy crowds in smoky bars don't bother 96-year-old bluesman Pinetop Perkins. It's all part of his job. Most nights, after he snuffs out his menthol cigarette, Perkins slides onto the piano bench in some club and … More »
