T.I. To Begin Prison Sentence Following Memorial Day Weekend
In March, the Grammy winning artist pleaded guilty to attempting to purchase unregistered machine guns and silencers from undercover federal agents. He was sentenced to serve one year and one day in prison.
R.D. Weeks, a spokesperson for the facility located 85 miles
east of Little Rock,
said that T.I. would likely be housed like other inmates.
"Unless there are custody or security concerns, all incoming inmates are placed in general population," Weeks told AP. Weeks added that the cells are furnished with bunk beds.
T.I. will have access to the correctional institution's recreation yard, counseling services and 14 organized religious groups.
After his incarceration, T.I. will be required to be on
probation for three years. He has also been fined $100,000 as part of his
sentence.
These terms actually look good considering what T.I. initially faced. Though his regrettable decision to attempt to purchase the illegal firearms is what got him in trouble, he has subsequently made wiser choices in his court proceedings. As a result, he has benefited by reduced fines and will potentially spend less time in prison.
By pleading guilty, the rapper born Clifford J. Harris, Jr. avoided
more stringent sentencing-a maximum of 10 years in prison and $750,000 in
fines.
Because he served on home detention for 305 days, he will receive a credit that can lessen his prison time to as little as two months, AP reports.
Of course he will spend the time locked up writing an album that he will record during his first week out of prison and will release it immediately.
