BET Awards Best Performers Recap, Behind The Scenes Photos

Posted Fri Jun 26, 2009 4:00pm PDT by Billy Johnson, Jr. in Hip-Hop Media Training

The BET Awards never disappoints when it comes to performances. Let's do a little roll call.

Remember when Beyonce, Kelly and Michelle brought Terrence Howard, Nelly and Magic Johnson on stage, respectively, and serenaded them with a "Cater 2 U"?

What about BET Awards '08 when Ciara joined Chris Brown on stage to bring their Matrix moves live on stage?

My all time favorite remains Mo'Nique's big girl version of "Crazy In Love" that drew a standing ovation from everyone in the audience, including the front-and-center Miss Beyonce herself. In 2007, she returned to put her spin on Beyonce's "Deja Vu."

See behind the scens photos from this year's awards rehearsals.

In helping promoting this year's show, Day26 stopped by 106 & Park to talk about being nominated in the best group category. Click here to see what they told hosts Terrence J and Rocsi.

Say what you will about Michael Jackson, but if not for him the likes of Usher, Chris Brown, Ne-Yo, Beyonce, and every other Black megastar that came after him wouldn’t be here.

He is a trendsetter in every sense of the world. From his dancing to his videos to his hair (I’m not kidding – his lacefront game was so proper) Michael changed the game and no matter how hard others try to copy him there will never be another like him.

As sad as I am about his death I can’t help but smile about all of the wonderful memories he’s given me.

I remember my mom telling me that I used to cry whenever the “Thriller” video came on because I was so young and afraid. Well they laughed at me, so that’s more so a happy memory for them.

I remember jumping and up down and screaming, “I’m BAD” in my living room.

I remember watching Moonwalker over and over again. People shouldn’t sleep on that movie. Mike was the original Transformer.

I remember screaming “Dirty Diana” over and over again to my mom and her threatening to beat the hell out of me because Diana is her first name.

I remember gathering around the TV to watch Michael premiere the video for “Remember The Time.”

I remember cursing out my friend for staining my favorite Michael Jackson t-shirt. If you’re wondering, no I wasn’t a kid. I was like 22.

You still may catch me screaming “shamon” for no good reason.

I feel like we're losing some great artist without an equal amount of greatness to replace them. Maybe I'm just becoming like my parents (who often said that "they don't make music like they use to"), but I see a lot of fleeting talent. Can you imagine Chris Brown at 45? Neyo at 50? Where is music going?
