Wyclef To Get Hip Hop Steroids Scandal Story Dismissed

Posted Fri Jan 18, 2008 1:00am PST by Billy Johnson, Jr. in Hip-Hop Media Training

After years of being out of shape, Timbaland gets a trainer, buffs up like 50 Cent and finally builds up the confidence to take his shirt off in one of his videos.

It's too bad that New York's Albany Times Union newspaper ruined Timbaland's set up days earlier when it reported that the superstar producer, 50 Cent, Mary J. Blige, Tyler Perry and Wyclef were among celebrities allegedly using steroids.

Fortunately for Timbaland, the report has a major loophole named Wyclef.

Wyclef don't take this the wrong way. I love the Fugees, your Destiny's Child "No, No, No" remix, The Carnival and both of your new songs with T.I. But I think you would agree that you are not quite as physically fit as Fiddy, Mary and Timbo.

When I heard about the scandal I felt bad.

When I heard Fiddy's name I thought: "Man, Fat Joe has accused 50 of taking steroids. Was he right?"

When I heard Mary's name I sighed: "Dang. I just interviewed her in New York last month and she said her new slim look was a result of drinking lots of water and working out like a maniac. She didn't say anything about steroids?"

When I heard Tim's name I got nervous: "Really. Is that how he turned that keg of a stomach into a six pack?"

But when I heard Wyclef's name, I felt relieved.

I knew that this investigation had to be a hoax.

Though Wyclef has always freely taken off his shirts in music videos and live performances, I haven't noticed any endorsement deals with Bally Total Fitness and Vitamin Water.

There's no way he taking steroids.

And if so, Dr. Gary Brandwein must have prescribed him a placebo.

Please, let's give Timbaland his moment to shine.

I can't believe some of these comments. People are saying we shouldn't care if celebrities are using steroids? For one thing, it's not legal, so that throws the "they just hatin'" defense out the window, and for another, lots of people look up to celebrities as role models, so what does it tell people if they see Timbo go from fat to ripped using steroids? Not good.

Who was it that was saying no white people have been accused of using steroids? Are caucasians the only other race that should be in the public eye? White people don't get accused of steroid use? Really? I guess Roger Clemens is as black as the night, then? Mark McGwire, too. If you're able to see the world in more than black and white, you'd realize that EVERYONE in sports, regardless of race or gender, is under the looking glass right now. Sammy Sosa, Rafael Palmeiro, Floyd Landis. Come on, now, try opening a newspaper or doing a quick search on Y!News before you go pulling the race card.

First off, Im a lot bigger and more muscular than 50 cent. I workout a lot also. Second, to all you black people that say we stole you from Africa is a joke. If you do your research The black people in Africa SOLD you like animals. We white people just bought you to do work. Quit pulling the race card every time you do something wrong!! jeez, enough already. So again blame yourselves.

first off why most of you people ( by that i mean black and white) refer to every thing as a racial issue.all races use steroids but people always wanna say black people are desroying themselves. people are individual not represented by every black person or white person so first off lay of hte blackpeople destroying themselves comment, second if the want to use it its there problem but only say it if you have proof dont assume or accuse half the time the ones who assume come out looking like the first two letters in assume!!!

kandjebay and all those other people making this about race. Get over it, there is a race problem in this country, and it's funny becauce everyone in this country is either a imposter, or a raper of land. All those "white people" who are so American first thing to be noted is that this country was stolent from the Native American and built on the backs of black slaves. you all were just born into a land that does not belong to you so yes everything is about race when it should not be. We all can go back to Africa, Englang, France, Germany, or where ever our original ancestors are from. The media goes out of the way to tear down whomever is making the big bucks, right now it just so happens to be rap and hip hop artist, once coutry or rock takes over they will be after Carrie Underwood or Blink 182. It's all about destroying whomever has the power and the most attention. (Poor Britney Spears)

this isnt about white people or black people. white baseball players and football players are accused all the time. saying other wise is a very racial and hypocritical thing to say.you are accusing people of doing exactly what you are doing.if you make everything about races then there will never be equality.by alwase saying that you are drawing a line between you and everybody else.isnt that what everybodys bin trying so hard to eliminate

so what if they are using steroids?
most of them are coccaine addicts!
most of them are alcoholics!
most of them are into some kind of substance abuse!
most of them have very low morals!
most of them are 99.9% self destructive!

but do we care? hell NO! as long as they are giving us the music!

showbusiness and the music industry is a really pathetic place to be in, and only very few maintain sanity until they fade out. ITS A FACT!

Unless we truly care for them and want them to change for the better and help them out of the miry pit they are in, then lets all save this rhetoric and mud slinging.

It is only the whistle blower who gets the attention.

the only thing illegal about some steroids is if you get them from a non-FDA approved source. if you can get around that you can take all the steriods you doctor sees fit to give you. Unless its too much, as per the Benoit case...

I agree with ppl when they say "hey its their bodies who really cares" i mean that makes sense because it doesn't really affect anyone else being that they're just in the music industry. But then people have the idiocy to comment this on a racial thing.... all who think of this news bulletin as "racist" merely because all the ppl mentioned in it are black are ignorant close minded morons. Perhaps that fact that not every different colored person acts the same way never occurred to you. In reality people DON'T ALL BEHAVE EQUALLY we all act differently based on who we are and how we were raised. If anything with how hate crimes are these days people are scared NOT to try and throw in some other random raced person just to please you ignorant dip [profane]s

I think everyone is missing the point of the story, the fact that there taking steroids isn't going to give them better lines or a better beat in songs. It will however give them a better look and improve their image to be ripped or fit than flabby. In this buisness image isnt everything but it is a lot. Didnt see mary j doing ipod commercials before she got in shape did you? Or if 50 looked more like biggie you think he would be nearly as popular? He doesent have the same talent, and made a fortune selling vitamin water. For some reason I dont think biggie water would sell as good.

For everyone saying whats the big deal, its just steroids they can do them if they want, the point is there taking an unnatural advantage over others. It could be argued so is plastic surgery and whatever else one can do to imrpove self image but the point is steroids for the most part are illegal. Theres a reason you need a doctor to prescribe them, mainly because if your taking them just to be more built and you dont have a medical reason for it, it can screw with your body. If taking the chances of dying from a heart attack or stoke is worth it to sell a few more cds, whatever, but it still sends a bad message to anyone.

and on a side note theres nothing racial about it, look at most of the famous baseball players named....it just so happens this is a story naming R&B singers and rappers, and the majority of them are black. If there was a steroid scandal in country music Im guessing most of the people named would be white. It also works out that in this genre of music being buff means being markatable, you dont really see a big need for a jacked lead singer in an emo band do you. Im sure if people wanted to dig this deeper theres plenty of metal bands that have members juicing for image as well.
