Chris Brown's 2006 "Thriller" Tribute To Re-Air Tonight

Posted Wed Jul 1, 2009 4:22pm PDT by Billy Johnson, Jr. in Hip-Hop Media Training
Chris Brown did not participate in the Sunday's BET Awards' Michael Jackson tribute, but the 20-year-old pop star still gets a chance to honor his late icon this week with old footage.

Chris' 2006 performance of Michael's "Thriller" will air Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on MyNetworkTV. The channel will play an encore presentation of the 2006 World Music Awards that named Michael the recipient of the Diamond Award which is given to artists who have sold more than 100 million albums.

The program also recognized the 25th anniversary of the release of "Thriller."

In performing "Thriller," Chris dressed up like Michael, wearing a red leather jacket with black stripes and red pants. Chris mimicked Michael's choreography and was backed by dancers in zombie costumes.

The re-broadcast is ironic for Chris who was rumored to have been shut out of Sunday's BET Awards that featured several artist tributes to Michael. Because of Chris' singing and dancing styles he has been the contemporary artist most compared to Michael.

The New York Post and Daily News reported that Jay-Z and Rev. Al Sharpton insisted that BET not include Chris in any Michael tributes. However, reps for Chris denied these reports, and told VH1 that Chris had not been confirmed for the annual event.

Chris reached a plea deal on June 22 admitting to one count of felony assault against his former girlfriend, fellow pop star Rihanna. Chris has not made any award show appearances since the February 8 altercation.

Chris is featured on another Michael tribute. Chris, The Game, Diddy, Boyz II Men and others joined to record the song "Better On The Other Side."

Thats great news, I love Michael Jackson and Chris Brown! I just hate Rihanna for starting that fight and leaving Chris out to hang, if she would have been a man Chris would have got off for self defense since she hit him first. That first hit is legally assault and battery!!! She just started a fight she couldn't finish because she was jealouse of Chris getting that text from a girl. I hope the truth comes out and Rihanna gets hit by a car or something!!!

who would of thought that he would die so soon...it was definitly a shock

life is a lesson to all of us and i sincerely do wish that we put our differences about how we look at people behind and move on. I believe Chris Brown will conquer as Michael Jackson did conquer even at death. My candid advise to Chris Brown as i am his fan is to look forward to better future with God on his side - He will be the next King of Pop / R$B. Rest In perfect Peace Michael Jackson until we meet again !!!!!

Comment #5 is just disgusting. Even if Rihanna made the first hit, that does not give a man the right to rearrange her face and keep beating on her until she needs to get intensive care at the hospital. Chris Brown disgusts me, and I hope he never lives this down. He is nowhere near the level of MJ, vocally or dance-wise, and he is 100% guilty of his crimes. He should be behind bars paying for what he did.

yeah...ummmm.....look at the video date it was back 2006 for god sake. rihanna and chris brown incident didnt even happen yet so drop the subject. we all should be remember michael jackson since these are tributes and last minutes of his tributes and influences that are left in the world he left behind. remember him and thank the artist that do tributes and think of those artist as caring ppl and not what those ppl did in the past. we are all human and we do make grave mistakes so just pray for his family or whatever you do as a version of prayer for the family and everybody he left

Everyone has a few skeletons in their closets if each persons dirty laundry was laid out for a feeding fest for the media, I guess then no one could be considered applicalble. Talent is talent. Michael & Chris are very talented & that you cant deny. Its as simple as Black & white. Look in the mirrow before u judge another, when u point one finger theirs always 2 more pointing back @ U!!!

20. Strahil -
A really incredible singer and person. Michael, you will live in our hearts forever!
