Chris Brown's 2006 "Thriller" Tribute To Re-Air Tonight

Posted Wed Jul 1, 2009 4:22pm PDT by Billy Johnson, Jr. in Hip-Hop Media Training
Chris Brown did not participate in the Sunday's BET Awards' Michael Jackson tribute, but the 20-year-old pop star still gets a chance to honor his late icon this week with old footage.

Chris' 2006 performance of Michael's "Thriller" will air Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on MyNetworkTV. The channel will play an encore presentation of the 2006 World Music Awards that named Michael the recipient of the Diamond Award which is given to artists who have sold more than 100 million albums.

The program also recognized the 25th anniversary of the release of "Thriller."

In performing "Thriller," Chris dressed up like Michael, wearing a red leather jacket with black stripes and red pants. Chris mimicked Michael's choreography and was backed by dancers in zombie costumes.

The re-broadcast is ironic for Chris who was rumored to have been shut out of Sunday's BET Awards that featured several artist tributes to Michael. Because of Chris' singing and dancing styles he has been the contemporary artist most compared to Michael.

The New York Post and Daily News reported that Jay-Z and Rev. Al Sharpton insisted that BET not include Chris in any Michael tributes. However, reps for Chris denied these reports, and told VH1 that Chris had not been confirmed for the annual event.

Chris reached a plea deal on June 22 admitting to one count of felony assault against his former girlfriend, fellow pop star Rihanna. Chris has not made any award show appearances since the February 8 altercation.

Chris is featured on another Michael tribute. Chris, The Game, Diddy, Boyz II Men and others joined to record the song "Better On The Other Side."

Chris Brown is retarded and should slap himself instead of Rhianna - wait maybe Rhianna needs to be slapped again and again.

Chris Brown deserves this honour that has been given to him he has been working really hard but has had the disadvantage of associating with those who the world loves to call HATERS but he is sucessfully standing up and doing his best and thats performing just like M.J. who didnt give a hoot what we the world said and continued to grace us with his music which will live on for generations to come. so i say C.B let the world talk and let them haters bring you down but just keep doing what you do best and that is touching our hearts with music. And to M.J. may your soul rest in peace.

why are people always so negative what happened to giving someone the benefit of the doubt, forgiving each other and helping each other to make this world a better place why do always love negativity? Is it because of jelousy or something if you want to be successful work hard to achieve that dont sit on your behind and bring those who are down. I am a girl from Zimbabwe fighting to finish school i am studing commercials so that i can join the corporate world i have my dreams and goals but i dont have a goal of bringing someone down coz imagine if it were you.work hard to get what you want and you will get it leave the rest of the world alone maybe every thing will be just fine GOD BLESS US ALL.

I just hope Chris Brown can return to music, I love his songs and he is a true performer! Chris is young and made a very unfortunate mistake, I'm sure one he probably regrets. If he wasn't famous we would have never heard about the incident. There are numerous of celebrities that have done wrong, cos they are HUMAN!!! No one in this world is perfect, and I think people expect too much from these celebrities. In time Brown will be back on the charts!

Leave Chris alone! You say you love Michael Jackson. I do not think so; the Media slandered Michael Jackson the same way you are slandering Chris Brown. In Michael’s case, he was a victim of extortion. In Chris brown case he was tired of being hit, kicked, and slapped he lost his temper he needs counseling not ridiculing grow up. Let us all learn something from the King of Pop and concentrate on making this world a better place to live in, Only God can judge...
