Kanye King Of Pop Story A Hoax

Posted Thu Jul 30, 2009 4:53pm PDT by Billy Johnson, Jr. in Hip-Hop Media Training

I should have known that reports about Kanye West proclaiming to be the new King of Pop were false.

In one sense, I wished the stories were true. When I heard the details in a morning show entertainment wrap up, I immediately began writing the blog in my head. I called Kanye out of line, disrespectful to the Jackson legacy, and unqualified for the King of Pop title.

But when I started researching the subject, it quickly became clear that it was a joke.

Kanye was accused of saying, "You know everyone loves and respects Michael, but times change. It's so sad to see Michael gone, but it makes a path for a new King of Pop, and I'm willing to take that on."

Kanye has said that he wanted to be like Elvis, so these statements were believable. "First there was Elvis, then there was Michael," the fake quote continued. "Now in the 21st century it's Kanye's time to rule. I have nothing but respect for Michael, but someone needs to pick up where he left off, and there's nobody better than me to do that."

Before I blogged about it, I searched around for the source of the story. I noticed that none of the major news outlets had covered it. Finally, I came across a few blogs referencing the source as ScrapeTV.com. One mentioned that the interview was fake.

I deduced that the story was a hoax when I went to the ScrapeTV.com website and saw the following story in the top spot: Study Finds Silver Bullets Largely Ineffective Against Werewolves.

There were also Stephon Marbury and Michael Vick articles with interesting angles.

Looks like ScrapeTV.com got their 2010 April Fool's joke in early. Bravo. Kanye is off the hook.

I think that there is not anyone out there who could hold a candle to Michael Jackson. How many artists since MJ can make a grown man cry at a concert? The title should stay where it belongs!

Although it sounds like Kanye, I also think it was a hoax. And why Kanye is a misunderstood genius (musically, that is) I doubt he will ever have grown men and women fainting at his shows or sell over 100 million records. I will say Kanye will reach the level that Jay-Z is on but not Elvis or Michael, we may not see anyone like MJJ for like 50 years

This guy Kanye is a fool, he has very little or NO TALENT....
therefore whatever he says does NOT matter cause he is full of crap...just another wanna be gangsta. People like Kanya that is bringing down the world today.
Michael jackson is the ONE and only King of pop.

I know that he came out and said that this was a hoax but the reason that it was even believable is due to his EGO! From crying when he does not win awards to On Keri's song he called himself the "new Slick Rick"... My first thought was, "no you're not"... I personally think that Kanye could not hold a candle to MC Ricky D or anyone who came out of the Get Fresh Crew! Silly Kanye...

Kanye's good. But next to MJ he's nothing. Most stars are influenced by Michael jackson because well... he was awesome! I dont know about reincarnation but if there's ever another person better than id say it was jackson himself. That he learned some moves from Elvis and James Brown and Jesus! I love you Kanye. But I love MJ A LOT More
