Chris Brown Does Not Seem Fazed By Sentence

Posted Wed Aug 26, 2009 7:10pm PDT by Billy Johnson, Jr. in Hip-Hop Media Training

I wasn't expecting to feel so cynical about Chris Brown's formal sentencing. There were no planned surprises.

In June, a Los Angeles judge determined that Chris would be sentenced to five years probation, 180 days of community labor, a course on domestic abuse and to stay at least 100 yards away from Rihanna.

All of those things were still in place, Tuesday, more than two months after the ruling.

What bothers me is the attitude that Chris Brown and Rihanna seemed to have since the incident took place in February.

I have met and interviewed Rihanna and Chris Brown, but I don't proclaim to know them. I have not been hanging out with them. They have not confided in me. My opinions are based on how they have presented themselves in the public since the beating.

I don't think they take the law seriously.

After Chris was ordered in June to stay 100 yards away from Rihanna, the two have been rumored on more than one occasion to have violated that order.

Instead of staying out of the limelight, the weekend before Chris' original sentencing date, he made his first public performance appearance, as a surprise guest during Lil' Wayne's fittingly titled Most Wanted Tour when it made a stop in Chris's Virginia hometown.

There's the "I ain't a monster" YouTube video Chris released in May.

And what about all the Chris Brown leaked songs? These songs were supposedly old yet they coincidentally portray a reformed Chris singing "[It's] Not My Fault" and revealing that he is a "Changed Man."

The fact that Chris and Rihanna's disagreement escalated to a physical altercation is horrible. But considering that Rihanna was beaten so badly that she was left bloodied and bruised, and felt the need to call the police, means that things got way out of control.

These two young adults clearly weren't mature enough seven months ago to be in this relationship, and it does not appear that they have matured much since.

It is also evident by Rihanna's request (via her attorney) that the stay-away order be dropped.

Give me a break.

Chris Brown is lucky he is not in jail.

And Rihanna's belief that a stay away order is not necessary only implies that she needs to take a course of domestic abuse herself.

Chris Brown is an arrogant woman beater. Why should ANYONE give him their hard earned money. What exactly is his contribution to society? And as for miss Rihanna, ignorance is not bliss, it is ignorance.

People kills me ya'll need to leave chris brown
alone it happen. hope he learn his leason and that it doesn't happen again. Do you guys know the meaning of a woman beater- a person who contiues to beat on woman. this is his first time. yall have to see if he does it again and again then you could say he is a women beater. And as for rihanna No one know what really happen. they had other dispute and one on them rihanna slapped the mess out of chris brown she is not innocent either she put her
hands on that man he probably got tired of her hitting him she should keep her hands to herself too it's not fear. she lucky he didn't knocked her ass out. woman or man dont hit anybody if you dont want to get hit back. woman think cause they are female they could get away with it men get tired of that. They dont want to be no punk just because you not suppose to hit a woman Females take advantage of that. let that young boy live he still have alot to learn. If they gave R kelly another chance and he was pissing on young girls why everyone can't give chris another chance too no one is perfect
and you guys aren't either yall made stupid mistakes in life too so dont give me that. If rihanna forgave him who is you guys.

yumitzio I so agree. None of us know what really went on in that car. No one has a right to brand chris as a women beater either. But as for Rhianna well all I have to say is that the door goes both ways and if he does it once who is to say weather or not it will happen again. Just keep ur guard up and dont play stupid. You have to realize your life is lived out in the public eye and if thats the way you want to live it well keep that privite. They are both still young and have a lot of life to live and if they want to live it together they need to find a better way to settle an argument instead of just throwing blows and not expecting the other to do the same.

Billy, sometimes I get tired of the BULL [profane], you guys print. As you stated you don't know Chris Brown or Rhianna, neither of them has confided in you any of their problems, secrets or even fears. These two having been dealing with this issue since it happened FEBRUARY not last week or even last month. What ever each of them felt 7 months ago does not have to show on their face today. Although they are both entertainers, they are still human beings who I'm sure are trying to move on with their lives. Billy lets say for a moment that you were in Chris' shoes, or your daughter, sister or mother was in Rhianna's shoes. Would you want people such as yourself writing articles describing what you are they should be feeling. Would you want your family to move on with this horrible situation or would you prefer people continue to bring it up everyday....7 months later. I for one don't condone what Chris did, but no one was in that car on that night to know what provoked him. Regardless, you live and learn, not cast stones, while you are casting stones, Billy, just how many should there be thrown back at you?

Yahoo! Music User, alot of what you are saying is true. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Just because they want to continue to support Chris Brown doesn't make them half-wits. Someone said if he wasnt in the spotlight, then it wouldn't be a big issue. We were not in that car and we weren't in the courtroom so we don't know what Chris told the judge. Apparently it was discovered that Rihanna has put her hands on him on more than one occasion but it went unreported. Does this give him a right to hit her? No, but that doesnt mean just because she is a woman that she has a right to hit him either. As for the word "woman beater", I would not put him in that category. The picture that was "leaked" was not even the real photo of how she looked. For him to be so young, he did the right thing by turning himself in and facing his punishment like a man which most young men and women his age refuse to do. There are just as many women out here abusing men but it goes unreported. It is not a lame argument to say that we were not in the car because no one really knows the truth but those 2. Apparently she must not be that traumatized if she doesnt want a stay-away order to be in place so what does that tell you about the situation. The media always makes things worse than what it really is. I took journalism so I know that with the media, they are gonna make a story sell by any means necessary. As for yugoslovia, why would you ever fix your hands to type some crap saying that you beat your girl every once in a while because she deserves it, you need some help. If you think that makes you look good, you are so wrong. You're probably the type of man thats afraid to fight another man.

no one's above mistake,we agree chris made a mistake and he had saked for forgiveness so why are u people castigating him, pls, leave chris alone

19. JAzZi3 -
Yall need ta just leave chris alone. Iam sure he is already going through alot right now and he don't need the media on his back all the time!I think he should get another chance just like everybody else would want!Chris brown fan 4 life!

20. Forever2165 -
I seriously think ya'll should leave chris brown alone. He apologized to Rihanna over one-thousand times. Like you have'nt messedup your own lives. Not only has he apologized to his ex but he also apologized to us. I mean he's serving 5 years on probation plus 4 months of community service. Cut the dude some slack. He will learn his lesson. and hopfully once he has served his sentence. We will see a better chris brown. Not some dude who beat up his ex for getting up in his bidness. In fact, for those of you who are christian pray for the dude. I bet if yiou do that, he will change.
