R. Kelly Ordered To Pay For Kicking Ne-Yo Off Tour

Posted Tue Sep 2, 2008 4:04pm PDT by Billy Johnson, Jr. in Hip-Hop Media Training

Ne-Yo was just awarded $700,000 by a Los Angeles judge for performing two dates on R. Kelly's "Trapped In This Concert," ahem, "Double Up" --tour last fall.

When Ne-Yo was cut from the bill it was rumored to be the result of jealously from R. Kelly's camp who allegedly felt that the new jack superstar R&B singer and songwriter's opening act was stealing too much of R. Kelly's thunder.

Since Ne-Yo was supposed to make $785,000 from the 25-date run, Superior Court Judge Malcolm Mackey ordered R. Kelly's promoter Rowe Entertainment to double up and pay Ne-Yo for his losses.

I haven't seen a payout this good since Mariah Carey post-Glitter got dropped from Virgin Records and the label giant paid out most of her $80 million contract.

Sounds like I need more contracts in my life.

Actually, I should give Judge Mackey a call. Maybe I can get a settlement. I attended the show when it hit Los Angeles and will have to admit that R. Kelly's seemingly impromptu set was so confusing and thrown together that it felt like a bad rap concert. Even though I received comp tickets, I'm wondering if I can get some money back.

Surprisingly, I felt in the minority that night. The R. Kelly die hards seemed delusional. They were hysterical, giving him props as if he was putting on a good show. Though I've seen Ne-Yo perform a half dozen times and am sure that his show would have been better than R. Kelly's, the R. Kelly fans were obviously too drunk on the "Step In The Name Of Love" Kool-Aide to give a care.

R. Kelly could have just let Ne-Yo earn his money. Oh well.

JOSEPH - The Guy WAS good enough, fans loved him... R. Kelly has tempter tanturms everytime he hears the crowd cheering for another performer... Same thing happened to when he was touring with JayZ, the "Best of Both Worlds" tour... R.Kelly is sooooo insecure as a performer, and a MAN, that he always does something to sabotage the shows, unless he's touring by himself or with someone that's far less talented...

Mama always said that if you can't handle the heat, then kick Ne-Yo off the tour

Whatever the situation may have been, if you enter into a contract, one way or another it should be fulfilled. R Kelly shouldn't have problem with that.

I agree with most of these post: R.Kelly needs to get back to basics and get off of this ego tripp he is on or leave the chronic he is smokin alone. I loved his music but his new stuff has been str8 garbage lately, what happen to the real music. I will be glad when the real R.Kelly comes back!!!

No one can sing on Robert Kelly's level.

Um yeah, I went to the concert that was supposed to be Jay-Z and R. Kelly. R. Kelly got kicked off of that one before the show got here. You know what, it was a much better concert without him. We got so many more entertainers who stepped up and filled the void. I think Ne-Yo got the better end of the deal by not having to tour with R. Kelly.

it sounds good to say r.kelly had to pay up but in fact r.kelly wasn't even mentioned in the lawsuit. ne-yo sued Rowe Entertainment

This headline is VERY deceptive. R. Kelly didn't have 2 pay anything 2 Neo. The Judge ordered the promoter 2 pay Neo - citing the Promoter not R. Kelly with breach of contract. With ALL of R. Kelly's many hits - I'm quite sure he's not jealous of Neo - but yet again, this seems like a ploy 2 keep us divided - let's stop the madness!

i dont even like rap music, but i do believe in being professional. If you have a contract and it is breached then it must be settled correctly. Sorry! It doesnt matter who is better than the other one, we all have our own opinions of who's better anyway. R-Kelly's Management group knew this could have happened and should have paid him when the canceled him and avoid all the negative publicity. So yes people are gong to be upset. Again Its just my opinion, Thanks!

rkelly should have gone to prison, he got off scott free, nobody would testify against him, by the time his under age porno flick came to trial, the girl was legal age, dont figure if that was me or someone thats not a rap star they would be in prison getting three squares and a round.

Quick question: does any one else hear Dave Chapelle's R. Kelly impersonation whenever R. Kelly comes on? Just wondering if it's just me. ***turn your face into a toilet seat***

R Kelly was a great singer and performer but he's just getting old and i think it makes him feel bad to see a great singer and songwriter like Ne-yo...

33. Jessica -
R Kelly should be required to pay Ne-Yo. R Kelly is a has-been. Ne-Yo is an up and coming artist whom people are probably more interested to see. R Kelly chose Ne-Yo to be his opening act, he should stick to this and not try to screw him out of what he deserves just because people like Ne-Yo better. R Kelly needs to retire and find something else to do with his life.

What the H%))? This doesn't make sense R.Kelly cries because Ne-Yo was stealing his thunder are you people blind R. Kelly was the head liners which means no matter how many people (men or women) yelled for Ne-Yo Kelly was still gonna make his money. I think that he should have been paid for his contract but again the media is trying to hype this up.
Ne-yo is talented but he's not R. Kelly. Kelly has worked with artists that Ne-Yo should hope and pray that he even gets to see in his lifetime!!!!!!
Kelly has been around forever Ne-Yo is just getting his hand in the game-

R.KELLY, its more like R.Smelly with them nasty corn rolls and pissing on little girls...

This is how the entertainment business works. Welcome to stardom NEO. You earn money based more on popularity than talent. If someone is stealing your thunder, it makes sense to remove them from your tour. Even if you still have to pay them for not working. Ask Bret Farve.

he's just mad he can't pee on ne-yo

r.kelly is the worst kind of artist. he stole his whole style from aaron hall. he messed up the best of both worlds tour because of his ego. he goes to the bathroom on young girls. and now this. Black people please stop paying this joker. if he lived in your hood he would get no love, just because he R dosn't mean we HAVE to support him.
