R. Kelly Ordered To Pay For Kicking Ne-Yo Off Tour

Posted Tue Sep 2, 2008 4:04pm PDT by Billy Johnson, Jr. in Hip-Hop Media Training

Ne-Yo was just awarded $700,000 by a Los Angeles judge for performing two dates on R. Kelly's "Trapped In This Concert," ahem, "Double Up" --tour last fall.

When Ne-Yo was cut from the bill it was rumored to be the result of jealously from R. Kelly's camp who allegedly felt that the new jack superstar R&B singer and songwriter's opening act was stealing too much of R. Kelly's thunder.

Since Ne-Yo was supposed to make $785,000 from the 25-date run, Superior Court Judge Malcolm Mackey ordered R. Kelly's promoter Rowe Entertainment to double up and pay Ne-Yo for his losses.

I haven't seen a payout this good since Mariah Carey post-Glitter got dropped from Virgin Records and the label giant paid out most of her $80 million contract.

Sounds like I need more contracts in my life.

Actually, I should give Judge Mackey a call. Maybe I can get a settlement. I attended the show when it hit Los Angeles and will have to admit that R. Kelly's seemingly impromptu set was so confusing and thrown together that it felt like a bad rap concert. Even though I received comp tickets, I'm wondering if I can get some money back.

Surprisingly, I felt in the minority that night. The R. Kelly die hards seemed delusional. They were hysterical, giving him props as if he was putting on a good show. Though I've seen Ne-Yo perform a half dozen times and am sure that his show would have been better than R. Kelly's, the R. Kelly fans were obviously too drunk on the "Step In The Name Of Love" Kool-Aide to give a care.

R. Kelly could have just let Ne-Yo earn his money. Oh well.

R.Kelly is a good song writer but yesterdays news. Some guys are tired of hearing songs about "Pee on you"...Every song he makes is about sex. Ne-Yo on the other hand respects women and it shows in his music. He is a great song writer and performer. He also sings about women but he has class when he does it, and the song is in good taste.

All of you that are saying nasty and mean things about R. Kelly you really need to get a life just because you heard a lot of bad things about him doesnt mean that they are all true.He didnt ask to be put on that pedal stool that everybody put on. He's only human an he will make mistakes. Its only that his mistakes are hyped up because of his fame. he's not the only man in this world that has done the things he's done, people only care because he's famous. If he wasn't famous you all wouldn't even care. Neyo has done his part in being a perv also, but because the media didnt hype it up no one cared. so before you all throw stones at one person be sure that you have all the facts.

r kelly is the best of all times in my opinion, so i am really shocked that he reacted this way. I have to admit Ne-yo has it going on too. But they are in two seperate categories, why in the world would the pied piper of r&b trip out like that? Really weird to me....

That is real sad. R.Kelly needs to stop being selfish. What was the big deal about Neyo being in the concert?

Can u Say NOT Guilty....Stop the hate...After he drops his next album, YOU WILL BUY IT...AND LOVE IT, AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN.

I love R.Kelly. I didn't drink anything at his concert and I thought he was good so as J. Holiday and Keshia Cole. Ne-yo is o.k. but in my opinion he is not the best performer, so I know he is not better than R.Kelly. If we want to talk about the best why he didn't ask Chris Brown? Everyone opinion is different

Maybe he should not have kicked him off, but the opening act is not technically supposed to be blowing the headliner out of the water. If I were the headliner, I would not want my fans to be leaving saying my opening act was better than me. That is just sad. But, if NeYo was better, then perhaps R Kelly should have taken a second look at his own performance. I would have let him perform and know to step my game up next time.

ALL OF YALL ARE HATERS!! R. Kelly is the best thing to happen to R&B, regardless of his personal life and his lifestyle preferences, he's a musical genius. Don't get me wrong, Ne-Yo had a very good performance, but R. Kelly is a living legend and will always be the remix king!!

Now, now, people, let's not be too quick to pass judgement! Truth be told, R Kelly and Ne-Yo are two totally different type of performers. Both get props for being singers, songwriters and overall brilliant entertainers! Let not the media and nay-sayers corrupt and sway you to count either one out. Respect the fact that there is still wonderful music to be made and look for someone else to breakout and find stardom! Be glad you still have an ear for great music and don't pit entertainers against each other; watch and pray for them!
