5 Reasons Why I Like 'I Am...Sasha Fierce'

Posted Tue Nov 18, 2008 2:07pm PST by Billy Johnson, Jr. in Hip-Hop Media Training

I wasn't sure what to think when I heard that Beyonce was already releasing a new CD, a double CD at that. I immediately liked "If I Were A Boy" but wasn't so sure about "Single Ladies." But after listening to the entire double CD set, I have to give her props. Here are my reasons why:

5. It's a double CD, sorta - There are only 16 songs. Artists generally use the double CDs to force die-hard fans to pay extra to purchase even more wack filler tracks. But I Am...Sasha Fierce is just 16 songs, the length of a regular album. It sequences separately her club and dance tracks which make for a better listening experience.

4. The quality of Beyonce's ballads evolves - Instead of sophomore lyrics about love, I Am...Sasha Fierce slow jams like "If I Were A Boy," "Broken-Hearted Girl" and "Disappear" are more sophisticated. Beyonce's spin on the classical song "Ave Maria" is dope. In one sense, the thought of attempting to modernize such a classic song is a bad idea. But she pulls it off.

3. "If I Were A Boy," the video - The "If I Were A Boy" video offers an excellent interpretation of the song. Beyonce engages viewers by leading them on a journey of deceit, showing a woman neglecting her husband, yet showing public affection for her male co-worker. Just as Beyonce riles viewers and convinces them that something isn't right, in comes the surprise twist. Great suspense.

2. Beyonce's one sleeved leotard - While I like the "If I Were A Boy" video better, I am in the minority. Beyonce's video for "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)" is the one that had a friend recently proclaim on a social networking site that she wanted to learn the choreography. It's the one that has teenage boys and grown men alike rushing to their computers to watch the video repeatedly. It's the one that will bring ladies out to the club in one sleeved leotards. This video clearly didn't cost as much to make as did "If I Were A Boy," but this is what you called a viral hit. So she deserves props for that.

1. Beyonce Gets Her Rap On - Yeah, I'm a sucka for female rappers. There's few things flier than a sexy around the way girl spitting. Beyonce is no Lyte, Kim or Jean Grae, but she does on thing on Diva over a chopped and screwed beat. Check the lyric, "I done got so sick and filthy with Benjis I can't spend." LOL.

Beyonce is fabolous!! She is my favorite artist because she is known for doing her thang!! I would say that this cd is the best. Even when the song she is singing is not her own personal experience, she still sings the hell out of it. GOODJOBGIRL.

UMMM BEYONCEEEE....I love it! such talent, such confidence! Thank you for producing an album that casts your great shadow over these little girls who can't hold a note! and yes us men can be divas too...lol. And I needed single ladies because it made me realize that if the man I wanted wanted me, he would have put a ring on it! BRAVO queen B!

I was disappointed with this CD. Im not a huge fan of Beyonce but I love her dance songs. The album consists of more love ballads than dance songs. I wish I wouldve known this information before i purchased the album and the Deluxe edition at that:-(

From what I've heard of the CD I like it. Beyonce is a grown married woman. So the difference in this cd compared to others is expected because I have grown with her and I'm experiencing the same thing with my husband and family and friends and just loving life in general. So I wasn't expecting much from the cd and yet I love it.

The cd is pretty tasteful and I think Beyonce is very talented. Hopefully she will continue to grow in her music and in her life. The only other thing I will say is that I pray she will stay grounded and realize that many young girls model after her and therfore it is paramount that she maintain a model lifestyle as well as through her music. God Bless You Beyonce

Not a fan of ths CD. I've been listening to it and it seems that it's boring. She isn't R. Kelly she can't just sing anything and it will sound good. She should have spent more time in the studio. I undersatnd to evovle in your carrer you have to switch up and that what it seems like. Single Ladies is no more than a bubble gum song. It's one of those song wether you like it or not you know the words. Hopefuly the next CD will be better. For those who haven't bought it BootLeg or buy it from the BootLegger I don't reccomend spending more than $5 on it. Espically in this recession after listening you'll be looking for the extra change you wasted.

I've always liked Beyonce but unfortunately "single ladies" is the only good song on this cd. I think it was too soon to release another cd. As much as I like her, I'm getting a little tired of her. Especially tired of her ballads. Way too many on this cd.

KJ You don't no or understand true music. The CD was bangin. I listen it to the entire cd, which is something you can not do now a days. Buy the CD you will not regret it...I didn't!

19. diannia -
If you don't want to hear a real singer buy Brittany where she sings with the help of machines. If you want just fast songs with no meaning and where people can't really sing buy [profane] cat dolls. If you want a real singers who sing live and can perform buy Beyonce. EVeryone else is haters.

This is not her best
