Stephen Colbert Takes On Kanye

Posted Tue Dec 9, 2008 9:26pm PST by Billy Johnson, Jr. in Hip-Hop Media Training

Did you see the viral video about a concertgoer who threw a penny on stage during a Kanye West performance?

Instead of stopping the show, a justifiably angry Kanye just kept singing, but changed the words. "What if that sh-t had hit me in my pretty ass-face," he sang. "If you want to make yourself known, I'll smack you in your f--king face."

The crowd freaked out with applause. They loved it. They got off on seeing Kanye lose it live. Their near $100 tickets were worth it.

If you feel even a little bit envious of the troublemaker who interrupted Kanye's set and wish that you too could do something to remind the overconfident rapper and producer that he needs to chill, Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert has an assignment for you.

Click right here and purchase A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift Of All.

Last week, The Colbert Report host announced the Humble Kanye campaign where he sought to quiet the egotistical West by knocking his 808s And Heartbreak album out of the Number 1 spot on iTunes. Actually, Britney's new album Circus has beat Colbert to the punch. But you can only imagine how annoyed Kanye would be if his recently released album is outsold by a comedy record, even if it is only for one week and via one retail outlet.

Now, A Colbert Christmas is Number 9. Please join me in supporting this worthy cause.

Helping Colbert out yields two-fold results. As if simply shaming Kanye isn't enough, A Colbert Christmas is a solid purchase. The 9-song album and DVD features Colbert singing Christmas songs with music superstars including Toby Keith, John Legend, Willie Nelson, Elvis Costello and even fellow comedian Jon Stewart. John Legend's "Nutmeg," a soulful, Isaac Hayes-styled innuendo for sex, is already a viral hit.

This whole thing is stupid. People don't have anything to do in their lifes but bother other people. Get a life, better yet use your time to think of ways to save our country. Losers!

i would like to take this opportunity to thank johnson for writing this article, me for commenting on it, kanye for being humble, colbert for being a beast in general, and for every guy whos ever thrown a penny at kanye west

Honestly who cares what Kanye West does. WE AS A COUNTRY ARE WAYYYY TOO PERSONALLY INTERESTED IN THESE NEW AGE MUSICIANS PERSONAL LIVES. I dont care who Kanye is as a person I like his music because that same thing that allows him to push the limits publicly is what allows him to push the limits musically. Its about the music for me and the other stuff is for you type of people who expect people to basically behave the way you want them to. Give it a rest.

It's just nice to see that anyone can be knocked off their pedestal. But it's especially nice to see a loud mouth get knocked by someone like Colbert, who doesn't take it seriously, if even for a little while.

I simply love it. West does need knocked down a notch or three. You GO Colbert. I love you, and your show.

Kanye just do you, and the haters will fall off your shoulders without the brushing. Self love is what you display, and those with negative focus on that display take time to love yourselves not hate on those that do. Just do you, and you will not have a problem with Kanye just doing him.

Are you guys serious? No, really.

Kanye West is what's wrong with music today. 2 reasons why we know hip-hop is dead: Kanye and Lil Wayne. If you enjoy Kanye's music then you live under a rock and need to explore the industry instead of being another one of ClearChannel's sheeple.

Colbert is the Shizzel! Down with Kanye. all you people who think kanye is the best, go get your head examined.

Sad...so very sad! Kanye West is a musical mastermind and yall are some hatin azz losers! Chicago is on the map to stay! Arent we suppose to teach our young people to think as a leader and not a follower? Dont we teach them that they are best? So why is it bad that Kanye thinks of himself highly? As long as he doesnt proclaim to be GOD, he's alright with me!!

Live each moment like it's your last.

After paying $100 for his ticket, maybe that was all the concert goer had left in his pocket. Or maybe he tossed the last of his Kennedy half dollars on stage at a 50Cent concert.

Go Kanye! Obviously a wimp like Colbert is just like some of his ancestors. He can't stand to see certain people be happy, free and successful! What does he care how humble or not humble Kanye is?? Why should he? Why does Kanye bother him so much?? Why can't Colbert just live and let live? Is Kanye breaking the law? Is Kanye being unethical? Is Kanye harming anyone? The answer to all of these questions is a resounding NO!! So...Colbert, you are a bonified HATER...you are the one who needs to chill. You are not in charge of Kanye as you seem to think!
