Beyonce Introduces New Animated Girl Group
However, later this month she will introduce to the world
yet another alter ego, this one animated. Beyonce will portray the character
Shine on four episodes of Nickelodeon's Wow!
Wow! Wubbzy! animated series. The episodes will air April 27-30 at 10 a.m.
ET/PT, reports USAToday.
Beyonce's character Shine is the leader of the girl singing
group Wubb Girlz. Their track "Sing A Song" feels like ‘60s girl group pop. The
pastel colored characters wear super mini skits, go go boots and bouffant
hairstyles. The lyrics are squeaky-clean and positive, urging listeners to
sings songs of joy and love.
The first and third episodes have a Wubb Idol theme and will be shown on May 1 at 1 p.m. ET/PT, and on Noggin May 3 at 7 p.m. ET.
Beyonce was inspired by her 4-year-old nephew to take on the voiceover role. Daniel Julez Smith, son of Solange Knowles, Beyonce's younger sister and fellow songstress, is a huge fan of the Nickelodeon show. When Beyonce told her nephew that she was considered for the role, he did not believe her.
"He's like, ‘Yeah, right, Auntie BB, you don't know Wubbzy,'"
Beyonce told USAToday.
Though Beyonce has been singing all of her life and has portrayed singers in movies Dreamgirls and Cadillac Records, she still found the singing for the Wubb Girls role to require some extra work. "The one challenging thing for me in playing the role of Shine was her voice," Beyonce said. "It's really, really high, and my voice is deep and a little husky."
Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! debuted in August 2006 and is created and executive produced by Emmy award-winning Bob Boyle, who produces Nickelodeon's The Fairly OddParents and Danny Phantom.
