Kanye Kissed A Fish And He Didn't Like It
I read Kanye's personal blog response to Wednesday's South Park Fishstick episode before I watched the show.
Characterizing Kanye as a gay fish on the edgy animated comedy hurt his feelings.
Unlike his usual egotistical rants, this post overflows with
humility.
"SOUTH PARK MURDERED ME LAST NIGHT AND IT'S PRETTY FUNNY," he writes Thursday in his trademark all capital letters. "IT HURTS MY FEELINGS BUT WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM SOUTH PARK!"
I immediately dismissed Kanye's reply as sarcasm. I figured he was for once trying reverse psychology, figuring that he would resist feeding into yet another round of media drama.
Then I watched the South Park episode.
Wow.
I generally feel that Kanye provokes the negativity he often receives from the media. But the South Park episode crosses the line. I imagine regular South Park viewers will argue that this episode was no different than what regularly happens on the show so Kanye should not be upset. But I disagree.
Any public scrutiny over his award show tantrums, overuse of Auto-Tune, spats with the paparazzi or even that crazy mullet shag ‘fro hairstyle he was wearing are based on factual events.
For South Park to
devote an entire episode to Kanye being the butt of a joke that dubbed him a
gay fish is baseless and over the top.
I think he was so shocked by it that he realized that blowing up as he typically does would only set him up to be further ridiculed. The premise of the Fishstick episode made the point that Kanye was so aloof that he did not realize that everyone else in the world thought he was crazy. It is good that he remains calm and does not fall into the South Park trap.
I am not saying that the episode was not funny. I just think it was wrong.
Ironically, in Kanye's blog he admits that his ego has been
out of control and that he is working on toning it down. He understands how his
attitude plays into the way he is portrayed in the media.
"AS LONG AS PEOPLE THINK I ACT LIKE A B-TCH THIS TYPE OF SH-T WILL HAPPEN TO ME," Kanye says. "I GOT A LONG ROAD AHEAD OF ME TO MAKE PEOPLE BELIEVE I'M NOT ACTUALLY A HUGE D-----E. BUT I'M UP FOR THE CHALLENGE.
Surprisingly, Kanye does not attack the South Park writers, but instead pays them compliments. "I'M SURE THE WRITERS AT SOUTH PARK ARE REALLY NICE PEOPLE IN REAL LIFE," Kanye says. "THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO DRAW MY CREW. THAT WAS PRETTY FUNNY!"
Kanye continues that his boisterous personality was his way
to overcompensate for those who did not believe in him or his art. But now that
he has fans worldwide, he realizes that it is no longer necessary for him to
boast about being a great artist.
"IT'S COOL TO TALK SH-T WHEN YOU'RE RAPPING BUT NOT IN REAL LIFE," he says. "I NEED TO JUST GET PAST MYSELF. DROP THE BRAVADO AND JUST MAKE DOPE PRODUCT. EVERYTHING IS NOT THAT SERIOUS."

and you call this out of line? lolwut?
i think kanye is just tired of the drama and just decided to blow this one off, hoping that it would go away.
Honestly though, they should have saved the anti-ego episode to attack Billy Bob Thornton.
Oh,and by the way,,,,,,do you like fishsticks?
Go ahead and write the South Park studios.I'm sure they will use your silly fodder to parady you in an episode that is all TIMMY!!!!
expect nothing less from them , totally funny.
to the writter of the article ,he is mad they didnt call him a gay fish.
I mean...who the hell was she? McCain's choice was so unconventional, it really did need a second look....
But why are we talking about politics?
South Park over the line but harsh rap music not over the line? Why don't you write a column about rappers over the line? The hypocrisy is amazing.
